Aren't stereotypes wonderful?

What the hell is that about?! Are women that vain? Are men that stupid?
....
Anyone with/know someone who matches this steretype?

That same ad had people saying ( not implying ) that flowers are for saying "sorry", or "get better soon", not "i love you. "

Pretty disgusting ad - no tact, no subtlety - just as they planned, I'm sure.

yeah. I'm not really a fan of their products. If I want chocolate, give me Godiva or Lindt.

We muck with many of the stereotypes. For one, she like chocolate well enough, but I'm the chocoholic.

Course, most of their advertisements are lost on me, since I really don't watch much tv at all. If I do, I'm either watching pbs or i tape it and watch it later so I can fast forward through the commercials.

Would it be okay for a commercial to portray women as clueless, shallow, disgusting or just plain dimwitted? Then why is it okay with men? White men, particularly.

It's socially acceptable retribution. Only minorities and the oppressed are felt sorry for since they are inhibited from success in some fundamental way by the majority oppressors.

Ah....the sentence "that their wives said not to bother" was what did it. Without the subject or direct object, it appeared that you were saying that the wives said don't worry about the candy! lol!

I have never given chocolate for V-day. I do not know anyone who does. Stover is just reinforcing the stereotype for their own $$$ benefit. It is a marketing thing.

Another great marketing ploy were diamond engagement rings. The diamond companies paid Hollywood millions in the 20 and 30 to depict men proposing out of the blue and giving the woman a diamond ring. Before that, most rings were colored stores and proposals were not a surprise.

Ah..the power of marketing manipulation.

I've given my girlfriend chocolate for St. V. Day. I gave her Heshey's Symphony bars with tofee, she gave me Hershey's Hugs with almonds, neither one costing more than a couple of dolllars. I then made some chili. The chocolates in the cardboard boxes can go hang.

We both like chocolate, and give it to each other on most occassions when we meet up.

The Auld Grump

*EDIT* And neither of us like diamonds either. Emeralds, saphires, rubies, just about averything but diamonds.

The hidden purpose of all these commercials is to have you roll Will saving throws. Any time you fail one, you lose Wisdom points. Fortunately, I throw away my TV so long ago. :)

About diamond rings to give to woman when asking for marriage. There is a justice in this world: Somewhere in the US there is a businessman who makes industrial/false diamonds which are better and more real than natural diamonds. And of course much cheaper. Just a few years, maybe a dozen years, and De Beers has gone bankrupt. :)

Manufacturing is poor at creating imperfections. We can make perfect diamonds. It's flawed ones that are a problem.

We can also now turn lead to gold, but the cost is too prohibitive in that case.

My girlfriend loves chocolate, but she wouldn't tell me not to come home if i didn't have any nor would she care. Of course she's also not a self centered spoiled brat.
