I read it as "the existence of 3rd party products makes D&D better".

If you go by averages you fall victim to Sturgeon's Law and you'd conclude that on average everything is terrible and there's no point to entertainment of any kind. :)

Oh, thank you!!!

That's what I get for multi-tasking.

Yes, of course. Think of all the stuff we wouldn't have without 3pps! Just off the top of my head, there'd be no Level Up, no Pathfinder, no Caverns of Thracia, no The Monsters Know, no OSE, no Rappan Athuk, no Zeitgeist, no Tal Dorei, no OARs, no Midgard, no Ptolus, no Strongholds & Followers, etc, etc, etc.... As a hobby, we'd be missing countless adventures, zines, campaign settings, player options, rules expansions, DM utilities, streams, minis collections, special edition boxes, and so forth. We probably wouldn't even have the nuTSR debacle to watch trainwreck-like.

D&D would be a soulless wasteland if we were stuck with one company's vision.

3rd party stuff has made my D&D experience better.

My homebrew mashup campaign setting is more based on 3rd party material than WotC/TSR settings.

I regularly use 3rd party monsters and modules in my D&D gaming.

I have adopted various 3rd party rules at various times as house rules in my game. (phantom attack bonuses for rogues and monks come to mind for when I was running 3e and Pathfinder).

I got to have my name published in (OGL) D&D print gaming books as a contributing author thanks to the OGL. Ditto for my brother and some of my friends being credited as playtesters for stuff I authored.

3rd party classes have been great for me. Of note, MCDM's Beastheart, Kibbles Inventor + Warlord + Occultist, and Lazerllama's Savant and Shaman are all stand out classes that I encourage any DM, no matter the power level of their game or their own experience, to use. Other than the Beastheart, all of these classes are free online too!
