Assault on Stormbringer Castle

Nac Mac Feegle

First Post
As the Ogres approach, Sevarian stands abruptly from his firing place and Foebane sings out as he fires four crackling shafts of pure force unerringly at the ogres, his lead shot catching the first ogre straight through the eye.

[sblock=OOC]
Starting from the front of the column of ogres and moving back as I drop them (if I drop them).

Kulgen grunts in joy and steadies himself for the impact of the ogres. He lifts his axe high in the air and shout a prayer to the gods as the gap closes.

[sblock=action and rolls]
action: He will attack the first ogre to come into his range. He is using defensive stance which grants +2 to strength, +4 to con, + 2 to resistance saves, + 4 dodge bonus to AC but only lasts 8 rounds. (does that stack with my +4 AC to large size creatures?)

attack rolls: http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1413326 (36,19,26)

dmg if hit: http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1413328 (12,10,13) [/sblock]

Aridha crouches behind a rock and surveys the castle's front gate pensively. Huge, of course. It was for giants. Too thick and strong to breach with anything short of siege equipment or adamantine, most likely. The ballista would probably not be terribly accurate, but that high up they'd be able to fire over a long range...probably even as the group came up the switchback.

It looked bad. Aridha was, however, a firm believer in weak spots. The gate probably wasn't it...but that didn't mean there wasn't one to find.

Moving slowly and surely, she begins moving past the gate, to circle the castle and see what defenses it boasted to the sides and rear...where there was no space for an army to attack, and thus perhaps, a sense of overconfidence in the design...

Jotunn waited for his shadowy ally to return. He was both alarmed and comforted by his inability to see or hear her. It meant she was doing her job well, but still there was a certain comfort level about knowing how things were progressing.

While he waited he mentally gauged his ability to climb up to one of the ballistas.

If they could manage taking out the ogres stealthfully it would make access to the castle all the easier.

Kale, Kulgen, Mirm and Sevarian
[sblock]Sevarian lets loose a volley of arrows that rain down on the charging ogres. The lead ogre falls forward, his momentum enough to carry him at least fifteen feet, plowing a furrow in the dirt road. The other arrows find targets as well but those ogres keep coming. Mirm stands motionless and invisible as the ogres surge past him to meet Kulgan and Kale.

The ogres, still in a frenzy despite the death of one of their own, swing great clubs over their heads in wide arcs, bringing them down on Kulgan and Kale in their battle lust. Three of the giant clubs are aimed at Kulgan and three at Kale but none of them find the mark.

Kale swings his morningstar in retaliation, the weapon twice pounding into one of the ogres, dropping it unceremoniously to the hard ground. Kulgan likewise smashes his axe into an ogre, the weapon cutting quick arcs through the air and in the process, cutting the ogre to ribbons.

With nearly half of their number down, the ogres are still slow to realize that they are completely outmatched.

Combat Info:
All PCs are uninjured.
Initiatives are as follows:
Sevarian 24
Mirm 19
Ogres 16
Kale 15
Kulgen 12

Four ogres are still up, three of them wounded by Sevarian's arrows.

Actions for round 2?

Aridha and Jotunn
[sblock]Aridha makes her way around the fortress, keeping her distance but looking for any possible weak spot. The castle walls are immense, both in height and length. From the gates, the 90 foot tall walls run nearly 500 feet in each direction before reaching another tower at each corner. These towers are nearly identical to those guarding the gate, standing about 100 feet tall and guarded by a single ogre manning a ballista. Turning the corner, the walls continue nearly 800 feet before reaching identical towers at the back corners of the castle walls, also guarded by a single ogre with ballista. The back wall runs over 1000 feet between the guard towers and does not appear to be guarded. The height and sturdiness of the walls and towers is certainly formidible but if there is a weakness, it is the distance between guard towers, particularly along the 1000 foot rear wall.

While waiting for Aridha to return, Jotunn contemplates the walls. He figures that for someone with a bit of skill, scaling the walls would be moderately difficult.[/sblock]

Sevarian doesn't bother to move forwards, his impeccable aim easily finding weak points in the thick hides of his enemies despite their vicious battle with Kale and Kulgen. Once again, four bolts of force strike true, hammering at the wounded creatures until they drop.

[sblock=OOC]
Aiming at the wounded ogres, direct shots into an ogre until it drops, at which point I focus on the next one, etc.

4 more hits: Stormbringer Attack Rolls: Post 37 (1d20+23, 1d20+23, 1d20+18, 1d20+13=[17, 23], [14, 23], [9, 18], [16, 13])

Damage: 18, 11, 20, 20. Stormbringer Damage: Post 37 (1d8+1d6+9=18, 1d8+1d6+9=11, 1d8+1d6+9=20, 1d8+1d6+9=20)

Satisfied with the findings, Aridha returns to the place where Jotunn waits.

"See anything interesting while I was away? If not, lets head back. I think we have some options as far as getting into this monster..."

Kale continues to attack his foes. He casts a glance at the dwarf. Sure he was good, but he was a bit full of himself it seemed. He hadn't known this group all that long, but he was sure that he'd have to save the dwarfs hide at some point and perhaps not all that distant in the future.

OOC:
Sorry for missing the first post of the combat. doh!

Also, how are we proceeding on the rolls? Are we rolling on invisible castle, or are you rolling for us Toric?
