Assesing intrest in a D20 future game

A Crazy Fool

First Post
I'm just posting this to see if anybody wants to play a D20 future game using all the D20 modern and future SRD with D20 mecha rules for vehicle creation and combat (it's a great system, you should get it).

It'd be sort of space opera-ish, but lower tech and grittier. Play would probably start at level 3 with a 32 point buy. I'm thinking a bunch of resistance fighters led by thier deposed president against a corrupt oligarchy that's taken control of the government on a cold (but not iced-over) planet. If there is interest, I'll also post alien PC races (though the world you play on is mostly human).

I don't obsess over rules, and am more concerned with character concept and creativity. I also hate WOTC's PL system. Expect changes. I can do maps. Also, a fair warning, I'm not a brilliant narrator, if you expect long and beatiful posts all the time, please don't play--you'll be disapointed. I'm looking for 4-5 players.

Sounds cool. (No pun intended.) I'd jump right on that if I didn't already have so many iron in the fire gaming wise. Have fun though. Sounds like it'll be great.

I'm somewhat interested. I'll have to think about it a bit.

One aside, I've run the d20 mecha combat rules in two seperate campaigns before, and I found they are a bit wonky. Defenses seem better than offenses, and it makes combat slow unless characters intentionally build "away" from defenses.

The party itself probably won't be using much in thay wat of vehicles, but am using it to create enemy and friendly vehicles. When I make something, I usually think how many hits it needs to kill something else--the hell with the point cost, so hopefully, defense and offense are a bit more balanced (I also lean toward lower HP and hardness values anywhay). As far as actual rules in combat, I don't know. I usually do more cinematic vehicle combat because of the size of the grid, so I don't know about other sorts of wonkiness.

Okay, here's a basic outline. I'll make something pretty when I finalize some setting stuff.

A rough timeline so far Game takes place in about 2500

-The planet was originally occupied by 2 pl 5-6 alien races who almost killed one annother off in a nuclear war

-nuclear winter ensued, and both hid underground (some still exist, most are now indifferent
to the human colonists)

-humans colonize the planet (PL 6-7)

-colonizing stuff takes place (nothing special here)

-Population spreads out from major cities at the equator built around space elevators to mine

-Gradually, smaller mining companies are bought up and merged

-The president, prime minister, and parliment introduce legislation limiting the growth and control of the mining companies

-Wealthy leaders of the mining companies, declare that this is a reggression to socialist movements, and, citing the failed socialist reforms in the early 20th century secretly plan a coup

-Many rank-and-file soldiers, dissatisfied with thier bad pay side with the companies

-The parliment building is bombarded from orbit almost all the reprasentatives are killed. the attack is led by the secretary of the navy. The ships firing on the Presidential complex are intentionally delayed by a systems-oficer who had second thoughts about his rebellion

-the other military secretaries side with the president, prime minister and cabinet, and organize a last ditch defence to evacuate government officials.

-The mining companies take control of the government, executing or imprisoning remaining government officials. In order to keep power during the transition, the companies use most of thier troops, they have very few resources to spare for hunting down the old government.

-The old government gradually forms a rebel organization to overthrow the companies, with the help of frontier miners, who are forced to live in dirty and overcrowded mining towns in order to get a job. (Most PCs would be recruited from the mining towns or be older veterans from loyalist military forces)

-The campaign takes place about five years after the fall of the old government.

Just an adition, and a bit of a bump, if anyone who is definitely interested could post what role they want to have. I'll stops at 5 players. Also, since I forgot to mention it, it would be good if anyone playing could post at least once per day (within reason, of course). There will be one DMPC in adition to the five PCs. What class they are will depend on your choices.
