Avenger damage

Storminator

First Post
I'm looking at an Avenger, and thought I'd calculate some dpr for various weapons.

The stats in the title, Attack: 4 Damage: 4 Magic: 0 refer to the character's weaponless stats. So this is a first level PC with an 18 attack/damage stat, and +0 enhancement for the weapon (i.e. nonmagical).

Is this including increased crit chance?

Yup.

Also, it's for a 1W attack. Tho there doesn't seem to be a combination of parameters that change the shape of the curves in any material way.

Summary: Use a Greataxe if you don't want to spend a feat. If you spend a feat, get an Ex-axe for low AC foes, or a Fullblade for high AC ones.

Yeah, and greatsword is for Goliath Battle Clerics, so avengers can just ignore it.

According to my calculation, fullblade starts to beat executioner axe at around AC 20.

But for effects and the like hitting is usually more important, so I'd often prefer the full blade over executioner axe. Between AC 14 and AC 23, the difference is less than half a point between the two weapons.

My calculations are pretty simple. I don't take into account anything like weapon specific feats or powers. If you were an Eladrin with a Greatspear, you might come out looking OK... maybe I'll run that case. :)

I think my chart has them crossing at AC 19. That depends on the attack bonus tho. It's AC 19 here because the Ex-axe needs a 13 on the d20.

I was initially thinking the same thing about the to-hit, but Avengers might be a special case. The constant re-roll is pretty powerful, and if you're an Elf, you get another in those cases where the dual rolls are bad. I thought the extra damage might be better for the Avenger.

It makes me a little sad to see that basically AV is, yes, a power-up since all the best choices are new 'super weapons' introduced in AV.

:(

It could also be argued these weapons should have been introduced in PHB. If there is a bastard sword that boosts the damage of a longsword, why shouldn't there be a waraxe that boosts the damage of a battleaxe?

I think double weapons are the only 'super weapons' in AV.

Could you run it for a Falchion-wielding Avenger, please?
I'm quite sure he won't make it anywhere near the top, but I want to see how much of a difference it makes.

?
But all the new 'super weapons' require feats to use compared to baseline military weapons. If they weren't stronger why would you spend a feat on it? I don't know what normal military weapons in AV would probably be closer in power to the military weapons in pbh.
