Avenger damage

Could you run it for a Falchion-wielding Avenger, please?
I'm quite sure he won't make it anywhere near the top, but I want to see how much of a difference it makes.

I've run it. I won't put up a new pic tho. The falchion is about 0.15 dpr better than the great sword at the low AC end, and about .25 worse than the great sword on the high AC end. The curves are very, very similar.

It makes me a little sad to see that basically AV is, yes, a power-up since all the best choices are new 'super weapons' introduced in AV.

A greataxe with Weapon Focus is identical to the ex-axe in damage. The fullblade is considerably better than the great sword and Weapon Focus, due to the high-crit property. What the AV weapons do give you is the ability to add Weapon Focus on top of them.

Oh, and I have a slight error in my code. In cases where a 20 is not normally a hit, it is not a crit. The flat ends of the axe damages should just continue down.

What would a high-crit greatsword look like on this chart? I've been mentally kicking around the idea that eliminating the falchion and making the greatsword high-crit might balance out the military two-handers somewhat, but I lack the math skills/patience to work it out. :)

...with a 1[W] power, I'd think, right?

As the number of [W]'s increases, it should outpace Greataxe + Focus pretty well, I'd think.

You're right. It starts to add another 1 damage/[W] at the "can't miss" end, that slowly tapers off towards the top. That changes again as you go up in Tiers (when Focus improves).

Excellent work, Storminator.

A thought occured to me while discussing Avengers elsewhere: for non-brutal weapons, how do Gauntlets of Destruction change the curves? In particular, I'm curious about falchions (ultimately curious about Vorpal falchions, actually).

What I find sad is while the numbers are interesting, why does it matter? Who cares which weapon does slightly more damage? Has the game really devolved in to a series of number crunches for so many people? Why play D&D at all? Just become tax accountants and get paid for it.

Executioners Axes are ponderous, slow things that were made to be used on non-moving targets, for example. Running around with one on a lightly armored, mobile character is really bad flavor.

Just sayin'.

While I can agree with you, keep in mind that this is, after all, a rules forum. I actually like the flavor of the Fullblade more than the Execution Axe, which is why I'm using it for my Avenger that I finally get to play on Saturday. But quite frankly, this is the place to discuss and debate the rules of 4e, and that includes character optimization questions. This is the place to discuss numbers.

Edit: Ninja'd. (Except for the Math is God comment, which I, for one, find an unsavory linguistic turn.)
