Avenger = Duelist?

Garthanos

Arcadian Knight
I am aware people seem to correspond Musketeer with Rogue... but this just struck me...

With the focus on mobility and fighting a single opponent an Avenger really reminds me of how a "duelist" fights ie a strong focus on one enemy with agile (and in this case relentless) pursuit to back it up..

Could Aramis of the 3 Musketeers ( he was the one with priestly training and a weakness for the fair gender) be an avenger perhaps with Melee training and a roguish selection of skills.( Noting Acrobatics and Stealth and Streetwise on the Avenger list.) Perhaps giving a Redemption Seeker background with diplomacy and insight associated...

A less magical avenger surely in a less magical universe but feeling wierdly appropriate.

Interesting idea. The fighting style would make sense. I guess you need more powers that avoid teleporation and non-weapon types of damage. A kind of "martial skin" for the Avenger.

I find myself wanting less magical skinning of many classes right alongside the magical ones swordmages are a prime example I have sword dancers with a more martial aire...
Short range teleports become combat acrobatics consisting of surprising and fast leaps and dives which do not provide opportunity attacks, this due to timing and exploiting blind spots and the fog of war your adversaries often do not even see how you got from point a to point b.

NOTE it could be significant.... D'Artagnian was a clutz (low dex anyone?) and a combat virtuoso. It was with perception and quick thinking he overcome his out of combat stumbles. But in a fight!! well that was a different story.

It might be a character disservice to build him as a rogue.

Easiest way to resin the powers is with a 'weapons as implements' situation.

Means you don't have to fiddle around with damage vales.

Oh, and don't forget to remove the proficiency bonus!

well obviously if you want to remove divine/arcane taint from a class you have to shunt the whole implement thing... or are you figuring if the divine classes can universally use weapons as implements then it will make reskinning anything easier?
