Awakenings: Chapter 1

"Sixty years!" The face of Samir starts to become red. "Well, I think I will have another reason to blast those damnable scientifics of yours. I should almost thanks those blue bastards of Krytosins for forcing you to wake us earlier, so I have a small hope to see my sister again."

Samir starts to looks around him, and see is overreaction is starting to make people around him uneasy again. He takes a deep breath and start to speak quietly.

"Sorry! I didn't mean it. It is just too much for me. Nigthmares, wars, mutations and now time leap. I think I'll take a seat and simply take a nap. Relaxing will do some good to me."

As he say that, he find somewhere to sit down and he closes his eyes.

Jennifer looks up to him and it's obvious that she is as troubled as anyone else.
"That's okay, I want to see my family too and I am really curious who these Krywhatever people are. And why we slept so long and..."
Her voice trails of as she realizes that she could go on like that for hours.

"60 years," Connor says outloud. "That'd put Black there at what? 90 years? 100? Looks damn good for 100, that's fer sure."

If it's really 60 years, I wonder what dad looks like, he thinks to himself, confident if that's the case, his dad should be alive and well.

The trauma of the awakening and following battle seemed to have shocked Trey. The young black man sits quietly on the floor of the APC, oblivious to the hard metal floor's bouncing. Even as Connor lifts him up into a seat, he doesn't really respond. He just sits silently in the seat, eyes pressed firmly shut.

Then, after miles of travel and more conversation, his eyes flicker open. Everyone notices this, because as his eyes open, golden light pours out of them, momentarily illuminating the inside of the APC. Trey's eyes are a luminous yellow color and without pupils. The golden energy actually rises from the corners of his eyes like trails of vapor. Then, just as quickly as the light filled the APC, it's gone, and Trey takes a long shuddering breath.

His adam's apple bobs lightly as he glances about at everyone. "Dem boys...dey be hatin' us. Dey filled by it. Didn't tink folks could be hatin' that much." He places a hand to his forehead wincing slightly, "Head be filled with dat hate. Feels like it be crawlin' 'bout my skull like roaches. Feel dirty." He looks up at everyone again, "Why you reckon I know what dey be feelin'? And why dey hate us? I ain't never hurt nobody."

"You'r allright? That didn't look to good even then you see how messed up the rest of us are."
Jennifer looks worried at Trey but she's worried about so much right now that her expression barely changes.

Trey scratches the back of his head as he looks at Jennifer, "Body's fine. Cold, shaky, but been worse. Head's...workin, but it be filled with all sorts of noise dat isn't mines. It was like I were inside de head of someone else. I wanted to shoot me. I hated me..us. I dunna know de words. Sorry."

He lowers his head, "At first...it were too much. Like tv fuzz, yanno. Now it's clearin' up some...but still not right. It feels like I don't quite fit in my own head. My brain feels all loose and wiggly inside my head and it's all broke up from shakin' around. But it be gettin' better. Mebbe because we's movin' away from dem shooty guys."

"Well, you have all been asleep for 60 years . . . "

'Wow,' thought Josiah, 'Sixty years . . . sixty . . . years. Well, there's something to think about fortunately - at least no one was worying about me or wondering what happened to me.

With that, Josiah stole a glance a Kaitlen, who had been quiet through the revelations and conversations on the Dragon. She was definitely cute and worth protecting, and the wings didn't detract at all. Josiah looked at her number, then at the numbers on her sleeve.

He looked at the other numbers of the people on the transport, and wondered what she was doing with their numbers. It had looked at first glance that she had awakened with all of he others. Wonder if her tube had been moved . . . or something else had happened.

Josiah quickly looked away from her and stared back at the ground, and let the journey continue around him. He would ask the others what they thought when there wasn't someone who would kill them so close by.

Even as the miles pass away beneath the rocking motion of the Dragon's hover fans, Trey's sense of hatred that is coming from without doesn't truly fade, he simply becomes better at blocking it out, and telling where its coming from. He can still feel the hatred, but this time its not directed at him, but at the thought of the Krytosin, the hatered clearly is not 1 sided, returned in spades by the humans.

"I am a 93 if that is any of your business." Black says, not really paying attention to any of you, just appearing consumed with his own thoughts.

Kaitlen shivers at the cold, although all of your suits are whole, and the insulation is complete, the mess that her wings and size changes had made effectively ruined hers, despite the uncomfort, she smiled encouragingly at Trey, "maybe your like a telepath and can read everyone's thoughts," she suggested.

"Tell-ah-path..." Trey slowly pronounces the word, getting a feel for it. "Huh, telapath. Dat be a new word. Readin' people's thoughts. Heck, I ain't much for readin' words, much less thoughts... But..." Trey looks about, a fainter yellow glow flickering lightly in his eyes, "Mebbe you's got sumfin dere. It ain't just dem blue folks dat's all mad. De soldiers. Dey be hatin' da blue guys as well. I'm bettin' we all be in a war, and if we's bein' rescued, I wonder who be winnin'."

Trey looks back to Kaitlen with a bit of a rueful smile, "Figures, don't it. If I can peek into people's heads, I'd be doin' it durin' a war when people just worry about bein' killed an' killing. Be better if I could feel folks enjoyin' good eats or stealin' a kiss in the janitor's closet." He shrugs and hastily adds, "Not that I'd be peekin' at that."

Josiah looked slightly alarmed at this, but tried to keep small and be unnoticed. What's the purpose of staying out of the way, when someone can read your thought and know you are there . . . I definitely don' want him in my thoughts, thought Josiah.
