[Azyra] The First Adventure

The night passes quickly and uneventfully and the party is soon on the road again. The dwarf is quiet and introspective for the majority of the morning. He announces shortly before lunch that Aos is guiding him in a different direction.

"Thanks for the companionship and the frog, safe travels and Aos' blessing on you all"

The road is oddly quiet without the talkative dwarf, splitting off to the west at a split several miles back.

The road here still makes its way through the forest that you camped in, the pine trees thick but the road is clear. Clouds have begun to roll in overhead and a slight wind has picked up, blowing softly through the trees.

The pine trees are thick here, thick enough that you can't see into the forest for more than a few yards away from the road.

The peaceful sounds of birds chirping in the trees is broken by a roll of thunder, followed closely by a white streak of lightning. Shortly after the sky breaks open and rain begins to pour down upon your small party.

The rain continues on for several hours, the road quickly becoming muddy and the journey tedious.

You know from the map that you should make it out of the forest and nearly to the path for the cairn by the end of the day as long as you keep hiking through the rain.

Thunder and lightning continue, though the lightning doesn't seem to be close enough to cause a problem.

[sblock=OOC]Will post more tomorrow, feel free to post flavor text but nothing will be happening until the next day. If you want to seek shelter in the trees feel free![/sblock]

As you continue on through the increasingly poor weather the rain turns into hail. Those who have hoods pull them up, offering some protection from the stinging ice. The road begins to harden, becoming crunchy rather than muddy.

After many hours of climbing up one hill and down another it feels as if you've been walking forever. As you crest the next rolling hill you see the forest beginning to give way to sparsely covered hills. The weather begins to clear though you can still hear the distant roar of thunder and flashes of lightning light the southeastern sky.

The road begins to take a more westerly direction as you begin to truly climb. The slope at first is gentle but it soon becomes a grade just gentle enough for a wagon to traverse it. The road is surrounded here by broken granite boulders, covered in white and gray lichen. Every now and then it seems like you can see a shape in the boulders, as if it was once shaped by sentient hands.

[sblock=History 15]You recall that this area was once the site of an ancient elven city.[sblock=History 20]It was the first city of the high elves, before they headed south to the island chain, the entire city was carved from granite. It was known for its beautiful architecture and finely detailed carvings, of course they have now been faded by the winds of time and these broken granite slabs is all that remains. There is rumored to be treasure if one leaves the road, but rumors also speak of ancient beasts that haunt these ruins.[/sblock][/sblock]

The broken granite continues to litter your surroundings as you climb higher. The sky begins to darken, though it is thankfully clear.

Will you push on or make camp for the night? There are several open circles in the broken stone. Or you could make camp here on the road. Several blackened fire pits can be seen in both the clearings and along the road.

The ground here, while not bone dry, doesn't appear to be too damp for a fire to start. Finding firewood could be a problem but there are a few dead bushes nearby.

The night is quickly approaching as the sun settles down beneath the distant horizon. The wind picks up, a chill breeze making any of the larger granite boulders seem like enough shelter to even the pickiest of halflings.

The group picks their way through the ruins, gathering a few of the drier bushes as they approach the most appealing of shelters. An immense granite boulder, it is set at an angle, providing enough of a roof to protect from the elements. The wall of the boulder should do some good to protect against the wind.

As the fire begins to crackle slowly you begin to see shapes in the darkness, silhouetted dimly by the flickering firelight. They are too indistinct to make out, but there is definite movement.

[sblock=Perception 18]You make out a vaguely wolf like shape in the darkness. It appears skeletal, with glowing red eyes. There seems to be three distinct shapes but the movement makes it hard to tell[/sblock]
