Babes of Gencon 2003

I see these sort of things happen quite a lot. Someone posts something and gets the politically incorrect speach off a person who is offended by it but has to go and view the contents to make sure it offends them. I'm all for non sexist, racist things etc but to be fair if I find something offensive I don't go and look and then become all high and mighty about it and telling people what they should and shouldn't look at.
This post for example says it's babes of Gencon so why on earth would a woman want to view it unless they were attracted to women or they knew of friends working there.
Now if someone posts a hunks of Gencon do I go and post that it's sexist and shouldn't be posted or do I just ignore the webpage and let the people who like to view it, view it.

Depends if you really thrive in a "Righteously Idignant" mindset or not.

I think I have a copy of Synnibarr around here somewhere.

That has to be the WORST system ever devised! It is one of three games (of well over 50) that I truly regret buying. And of the others, RIFTS and HERO actually have some redeeming qualities.

Just viewed the pictures and think that most of them are tasteful and the 1's that are a little risque are due to the women dressing up for the event like the girl in the chain with the skull on it and yes I'm not afraid to say she is great looking and wish our group had gamers such as her in it :D But then again any woman would be a change as I've never gamed with one before and would like the change.

I don't think she's a gamer if memory serves. She's a "Booth Babe": Eye Candy hired to draw gamers to a vendor's product.

I think she is also the model used for that particular vendor's art.

I'll agree with you on one point though: She is great looking :)

"Taking Gender-Based Offense for the ladies (by Proxy)"

Offense by proxy - what a beautiful phrase! I'm going to steal that for the next time I do battle with people eager to get offended on someone else's behalf. And alsinh2o, I'm not targeting you here.

As for SKR's methods, the image captions themselves clearly reveal he was asking for permission, hardly doing guerilla photography as you implied. Personally I think he was right interpret your post that way, though you meant no insult you didn't give any clue of that.

Hey, I'm all for good taste and asking people's permission for photos, but if we're going to jump to take offense by even that because someone somewhere might not like it, then why not ban photography altogether, since some primitive tribes (I'm gonna offend someone with that term, I just know it) see it as stealing your soul?

Clearly there are things which one can reasonably expect would offend a majority of reasonable people. These things we probably should not do, at least in public, and would not want associated with these forums or our hobby. In fact, we should probably strive not to offend people as a general rule, until the issues we're assuming will offend people get unreasonable or pose unacceptable restrictions upon our chosen lifestyles. Beyond that, if you ask for and receive permission, that's as good as you can ask for, isn't it?

Enough moralizing for today anyways - I have 3.5 books to try and absorb before my game session on Sunday. :)

You know, souls aren't worth what they used to be given the unusually high number of them on the planet these days. Back in biblical times, you could go out and have a nice steak dinner after selling a soul. Now you can barely get a stick of gum. I think those offended by soul stealing are overreacting since people don't really bother with it anymore. Now maybe a nice large apocalypse would drive up the fair market value again, but until then, why bother?
