Hell... yeah, literally.
We just finished off a 7-session dungeon by facing a Balor guarding the Eye of Ioun. The fight was epic... also literally.
After three waves of Grimlocks(60 total) that our Feytouched Warlock killed in 3 rounds with Slashing Wake, the Balor showed up. In the first round, we quickly discovered that we were severely outclassed when our Priest rolled 19 and missed and our Paladin missed with an 18 on his charge attack.
The second round made the fight however when our Paladin critted with Certain Justice, rendering the Balor Dazed and Weakened for the rest of the fight. 20 or so rounds later, my Stormwarden missed us to victory with Scimitar Dance and we triumphantly claimed the Eye of Ioun!
In spite of it being our sixth fight of the session, lasting 20 rounds, and finishing at 4am, it didn't feel like a grind: it was intense, with everyone watching every roll, cheering when anyone hit. Pretty much everyone needed 19-20 or just 20 to hit, excepting our Daggermaster with Piercing Strike who "only" needed a 16.
Our quest complete, the campaign is now on hold for a few months while I start up my 4e game. We went from just barely level 15 to just barely level 16 in one session, which is crazy since we went from 1/3 of the way through 14 to 15 in the session before.
No real point to this thread, just excited that our game ended (for now) on such a high note - well, and it's almost 5am.
Who would have known? A group of 5 resourceful level 15s can take down a 27 elite, even after dispatching 60 level 14 minions in the same encounter!
And now I'm going to go pass out, since I can barely see the screen and I'm not even sure what I just typed.
Woot!
