Bards: bringing back the bad in badass.

1e bards were just strange (do x levels fighter, y levels thief (and was it z levels druid or was it just that you got druid spells once you became a bard?).

I always wondered how half-elves became bards, since you had to dual-class from fighter to thief to bard in order to do it and half-elves can't dual class (humans could). Did a half-elf fighter/thief multiclass count?

My youngest son wanted to run the Troll haunt for me and my oldest son. I rolled up a bard so my oldest could play what he wanted and I'd take on the unfilled roles and because of this thread. Tonight was the first game and the bard truly does kick it into high gear.

Are talking Core?

Because 3.5 non-Core Bards were powerful.
Yes, we're talking core.

Non-Core anything was easy to make ridiculously overpowered: spend dollar, wreck game.

So, yeah, we're talking core. There's a reason lots of DMs ban 3PP products: the quality is really variable, even moreso than Wizards' own stuff.

...Huh? The poster you're quoting listed only WotC products.

Personally, I've found 3PP products that are equal - if not better - then "official" ones. Poor DMs ban things outright. Good ones take them at a case by case basis.

Bards are bad ass in 4e. My party is becoming REAL adept at using their powers together. And with the bard being played effectively.....ug.
