Well, I've been watching it. It's good and instead of a timeless feel like BTAS was, it's set firmly in the late 1940s abet with some changes no overt racism and an on screen kiss between two female characters.

Harleen Quinzel is the biggest change here from pervious depictions.

It looks good. I'm hoping Bruce Timm has worked the "I want to see Batman and Batgirl bone" out of his system and we won't be seeing any of that nonsense in this series.
Barbara seems older than BTAS, so maybe Timm is still cooking it for next seasons...

I've watched the first two episodes and it's pretty good so far. There are different versions of some classic villains, but it works so far.

I think they went a little too far with the Penguin. No, I don't care about the gender change. It's just they showed her killing her son for the sake of showing us how bad of a person she is. Though I wonder of Oswalda will eventually die and her son will take over the role of Penguin.

I've watched eight episodes so far and I'm enjoying them. This version of Gotham is firmly set in an era resembling the late 1940s or early 1950s (I don't think we've seen a television in the series yet), but given that we have a black Commissioner Gordon and openly lesbian Dr. Quinzel and Detective Montoya the producers aren't bringing the full 1940s/50s ethos into the series. Which is fine.

What's a Batman series without his gallery of rogues? There are some new interpretations of some old villains which might not sit well with some people. The Penguin is Oswalda instead of Oswald, Dent isn't the squeaky clean district attorney most of us were used to, and Dr. Quinzel's origin has been completely divorced from the Joker. The Joker hasn't appeared as of episode 8 at least and I'm guessing we won't see him this season.

Batman hasn't been fighting crime in Gotham for all that long as many people doubt he even exists at the beginning of the series, so we get to see him form relationships with pivitol characters. The Gotham PD is riddle with corruption, but I wonder if we're going to see a redemption arc with one of the detectives. Not Flass. It's also nice seeing a Batman that doesn't rely on a bunch of outlandish gadgets and instead we get detective work and fisticuffs who still concerns himself with saving lives.

The actors are fine, the writing is good, but I expect it to improve now that they've had time to get into the swing of things, and I'm already looking forward to the next season.
