Best arcane casters besides Wiz and Src?

Hi all,

I was just wondering - if you wanted to play an arcane caster in a game where wizards and sorcerors were banned (never mind the reason, it's basically hypothetical), what would you choose? The only ones I'm really familiar with are the Bard, Beguiler, Warmage and Dread Necromancer...

Wu Jen.

booyah.

I don't care that it's got its weaknesses and all, and that 3.5 made some wierd changes to it and the spells (and apparently, I think, removed the mention that sorcerers could learn their spells from the wu jen list instead of the wizard list if they so chose).

Wu Jen's next in line.

After that... then I'd venture more toward the Beguiler/Warmage/Dread Necromancer.

Bard isn't really an arcane caster in the same way. Yeah, granted he casts arcane spells, but in the end a (PrCless) bard is in a category by themselves.

One of the guys I play with wants to DM a game where everyone plays character classes that we don't usually play, just for something different. Basically, no Fighter, Cleric, Rogue, Wizard or Sorcerer. ;)

Books for allowed classes include: PHB, PHB II (Knight, Beguiler, Duskblade, Dragon Shaman), Miniatures Handbook (Warmage, Healer, Favored Soul, Marshal), Heroes of Horror (Archivist, Dread Necromancer) and Dungeonscape (Factotum)...

Barbarian, Druid, Beguiler, Warmage

Barbarian is a pretty straight replacement for the fighter, ditto druid for cleric. The slight increase in combat ability from cleric to druid makes up for the lessening damage from rogue to beguiler. Between the beguiler and warmage they'll have all the spellcasting bases covered. Beguiler grabs the rogue skills.

Archivist is pretty good. Especially if you get spells at low levels from other divine lists (check out the Adept's, for example)
