Best commercial in the superbowl?

Did you know that they pulled all other beer commercials this year because Anheiser-Busch/Budweiser sponsered the game. I guess they didn't want any anti budlight spots from Miller light. LOL. Whatever happened to free enterprise? lol

The Seraph of Earth and Stone

Actually I believe that they had to pay extra (maybe the sponsorship of the game was the extra) to have exclusive rights for beer commercials. Pepsi did it too, that's why no Coke ads.

Good ole Omaha, Nebraska. You know; home of Heartland values? :(

I was a military brat and was in the Air Force myself. I've seen it come and go. When they need us, civilians are fantastic and will go out of their way to be kind and sincere. But when they don't, they revert to the "do we really need them" mentality (see the round of base closures and downsizing in the 90's).

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that people finally recognize the sacrifice our men and women make to help our country, but it all just feels so... I don't know how to say it.
Funny I was going off the assumption that you were in the California College System... I could see it there. Nebraska though? Weird...

Here's an example: All those "Support Our Troops" ribbon bumper magnet.

I think this is really ironic: The yellow ribbon has been shown to be from two traditions. The first and most prominent is that it is supposed to symbolise the expected return of a prodigal son figure. Originally it was a convict, and the ribbon was white. From the Sixties to the seventies the ribbon changed to yellow and was used by Gail Magruder, wife of Jeb Stuart Magruder of Watergate fame, to welcome her husband home from jail. In 1979 with the Iran Hostage situation it turned from welcoming home a prisoner who deserved their sentence to welcoming home a prisoner who did not. In this respect it became a symbol for families that hope to be reunited. I find the yellow ribbon magnets thick with irony maily cause looking at the history it means "We want you to come home." Apparently agreement with the political situation is supposed to be beside the point.

The second (most popular but least likely) comes from some lines in Othello and is the supposed "Civil War" musical record origin from the song "She wore a yellow ribbon around her neck." This has nothing to do with troops in the slightest.

People buy them and put them on their car and then forget. That's about it. And who does the money go to? Not the troops (at least not for most companies selling these things). But do people stop to ask? I doubt it. We just become another "cause" to place right next to "stop abortions/support choice" or "my kid's an honor roll student at..."

I think they buy them so they can forget.

Oh and my favorite: "My Kid Beat Up Your Honor Student"

Aaron.

And what was worse is the guy was at least in his 60's. I could even understand some young college kid, like you said, but someone that age?? It was really surreal.

Well if its the late ninities, than the guy was probably some old Vietnam War protester. His age would be about right. There is probably more to the story than some guy deciding he did not like soldiers that week. I would suspect that the guy has had a lot of time to prictice his aim.

In any case I have to vote for the cat + tomato sauce... too classic.

Aaron.

Was this an isolated incident? If so I wouldn't lose any sleep over it...no matter what you represent in your life there is at least one person out there who is pisses off.

From your initial post I was under the impression it was something you experienced multiple times...that is why I expressed surprise.

I've run into an angry hippy or two in my time as well. ;)

I'm not bothered by it. I just used it as an example of how people don't really feel they "need" the military until something bad happens. It's more dramatic that way. ;) I just feel there are way to many hypocrits who, if asked just 5 years ago, couldn't have cared less with how the military was doing.

He was a Nebraskan, so probably someone in the military said something bad about their football team once. You know how they are.

I like the Mustang convertible in the winter wonderland :D

Careerbuilder.com was good

The cat and tomato sauce was enjoyable (I have a fuffy that looks just like that one)

Bigdaddy.com was okay

The last 3 were funny. But the convertable one was amusing the first time but was morbid the other 2 times it was shown.

I liked the MC Hammer ads (for two diff. companies= Lay's and Nationwide).

Diet Pepsi ones were good.

Did we really need one for cialis? Or contact lenses? Or lamer car commercials?

Yep. Most of the commercials were lame. And totally not funny.

Yeah but ultimately their opinions don't matter much because when you get down to brass tacks we really didn't do it for them did we?
