Best Current RPG Artist?

I know a lot of people like artists from days gone by, and some prefer the newer art, but who is the single best RPG artist working today (taking into consideration their entire body of work and not just a single product or image)?

I can't remember his(her?) name. But he did a bunch of work for Rifts. His initials were WVM or VWM. I can't remeber which. I loved his illistrations and the use of shading.

There is alot of stuff that I like a whole lot better, but he's the only person that I even come close to knowing the name of.

Having an artist as my ex-girlfriend provides an odd bit of perspective here.

You can really divide the fan faves into two groups: Comics-esque, and Classical.

Comics-esque artists include folks like Wayne Reynolds, Danilo Moretti, and Erol Otus who have very stylized pieces. They tend to go in for pen and inks a lot, with limited lines used to perfection to suggest shapes and perspective.

Classical artists include the real classics of AD&D, like Easley and Elmore, and the more modern masters like Todd Lockwood. They go in for pencils and oils mostly, it seems, and my artists friend refers to them affectionately as 'render monkeys' because they go for photo-realism a lot, and have a lot of precise details. She is horribly jealous of them, because everyone seems to love the detail-heavy style, and she goes more in for the Comics style, particularly a la Terry Moore.

I personally go in for the stranger sorts of styles that don't fit either category, like Tony DiTerlizzi, Rebecca Guay, and D. Alexander Gregory. I like my fantasy art more 'fantasy,' less 'Italian' or 'Spider-man.'

But if you want to ask who I think is the best fantasy artist right now, well, of course that's my dear friend Jessie-Lynn Jones, a bright star just waiting to be discovered.

Sam Wood. Closely followed by Todd Lockwood and Wayne Reynolds. I've also always been a fan of Ron Spencer's, especially on the Werewolf line. He does some decent stuff now and again for D&D too, though.

I forgot Toren Atkinson and Sam Wood. The aforementioned Todd Lockwood, as well, although he's not actually one of my favorites (he's good, very good, but somehow not one who grabs me) and Josh Timbrook, who does work on the Scarred Lands setting and is famous (or infamous) for his work on White Wolf products like Exalted and Werewolf. And finally Earl Geier, for his work on Dragon Lords of Melnibone, even if it was recycled from Stormbringer.
