Best Current RPG Artist?

Hi all! :)

There are a lot of great RPG artists out there (past and present) but for me Wayne Reynolds is the most consistently brilliant. His work is always exciting; imaginative and incredibly well designed.

To this day I have not seen a poor (or even average) illustration by him; and that for me puts him ahead of the rest.

One other amazing artist, that I don't think has been yet mentioned in this thread is Brian Despain, thats definately one artist I would like to see more of (though I believe he is working for a computer game company now rather than freelancing - unless I am mistaken?)

I too have to go with Elmore. I picked up two of his books at Gen Con and had them autographed. I don't normally get autographs, but I do treasure these.

Brom, Wayne Reynolds, and wow do I ever love that Adrian Smith art on Red Spire's site. Very nice.

Privateer Press is hiring all the right artists, if their Iron Kingdoms books are any indication. Sweet.

Stephanie Pui-Mun Law, who got her start as an amatuer on Elfwood:

Recently I saw her work on greeting cards, and she's in a few Green Ronin products as well (Check out their Shaman and Witch books - even if the store won't let you open it, she did the covers as well).

Her professional gallery is here:

Seconds go to Jake Parker, who did some work on Mutants and Masterminds and Urban Arcanna.

Larry Elmore is and likely always will be my favourite. He's inextricably linked with my fondest and earliest D&D experiences, so he's got an unfair advantage that I'll own up to immediately.

That's not to say I don't like some of the other folks. Easley is excellent, though I'd forgotten about him. I like Erol Otus's stylized drawings because of the sense of mystery and wierdness I associate with my first steps into AD&D with him. Some of the modern guys are also excellent, though I haven't really locked their names into my brain yet enough to toss them around in conversation.

Good call. I guess the only reason I didn't list her is that it seems like after she did a few things for Green Ronin and Bastion, she totally dropped out of the RPG scene again.

Shame too. Her style would have been perfect for Faeires.
