The group begins to press towards the light, figuring its the best of the rapidly worsening options available to them, the group pushes towards it. You find yourselves struggling through the rocky forest by the hills, until finally you find a path that winds its way up the cliff side and begins to enter a ravine.
As the group moves, the light seems to always be the same distance ahead of them through the fog, as if it's leading them somewhere. It is still a ways away, but the group seems to be slowly catching up to it as they struggle onward...
Unfortunately, the dead are closing, beasts scrambling on the rocks, motes drifting through the fog, dozens - maybe hundreds - of the dead emerging from the trees behind the group, directed by a pair of the red-armored swordsmen that Kaz, Eithal, and Fredrock fought on their first venture to the tower. Even worse, here and there is the faintest shimmer and swirl in the fog - more stalkers.
The ravine narrows to a point where only one person can go through at a time and as the group passes through, it becomes clear that they aren't going to outrun the dead - not in their injured state and not with the rerisen Yishim requiring two people to drag him along.
Someone will need to stay behind to hold off the dead long enough for the group to get some distance or the group will be overrun in minutes.
GM: | We're about to do a skill challenge, but it will require a slight split in the group:
One person will remain behind. Each round in the skill challenge, that person will be involved in combat against the dead, holding them off as more and more close in on him.
The rest will push on towards the light through the rocky terrain and dense fog, with Yishim struggling against them every step of the way...
Its up to you who stays behind, but the longer they can stay up, the easier the rest of the group's challenge will be.
Edit: I suppose you could not leave someone to hold the pass and all stay together, but if you do, everyone will face attacks every round of the skill challenge as they dead harry the group at every step. | |
