BIG DAMN HEROES - a d20 Firefly Campaign [IC]

Melara stays at the board for a moment, then jots down the ship names and berths on the back of a reciept slip from the little starport diner she frequented. Normally she wouldn't be concerned about it but it was early, and she was bored. All she had to do was follow them at a distance, tick off the berths as they passed 'em, and she'd find out what ship they were making for.

And then what?

Most likely? Then nothing. The passengers find their ship and board, and she paases a few mintues of time.

Good enough. She glances at the departing pair, waits for a second to be sure she wasn't being obvious, then folllows them down the concourse, occasionally checking the berths on her note until she's sure where they're stopping.

[SBLOCK=Cash]Beale is full of go-se. Whatever he's up to, it isn't ships business, and it seems most likely he's about to make off with some part of the ships dwindling stores and the hover mule. He's irritated that Cash has disturbed his clever plan, but doesn't seem particularly worried.

An unfamiliar voice yells up from below: "Beale, you liou coe shway duh biao-tze huh hoe-tze duh bun ur-tze1! What the devil is taking so long!?![/SBLOCK]

[SBLOCK=Baxter]Baxter wakes up. Heroically. He hears the sound of conversation outside the door of his bunk.[/SBLOCK]

[SBLOCK=Helsinki]Whoever it is out there at this ungodly hour obviously has no sense of common decency. They will not shut up.[/SBLOCK]

[SBLOCK=Bastion]As Bastion reaches the gantry, he can clearly see that it's Beale and Cash up on the catwalk. Beale looks his usual belligerant self.

As Bastion starts to climb, he's startled by the sudden apperance of a figure in the half-light of the cargo bay doors below. "Beale," the unfamiliar voice shouts. "You liou coe shway duh biao-tze huh hoe-tze duh bun ur-tze1! What the devil is taking so long!?!" Whomever it is, is stalking into the bay, and doesn't seem aware of Bastion's presence.

[SBLOCK=Kai and Win]As Kai and Win get within a hundred feet of 42B, the warning claxon on the bay doors of the Dragonfly directly opposite begin to sound as the ramp drops. An older man with square shoulders and a fierce expression stalks across the concourse and directly up the ramp into the Kwai Su Nyao. He shouts up into the bay.

"Beale, you liou coe shway duh biao-tze huh hoe-tze duh bun ur-tze1! What the devil is taking so long!?!

OOC: I'll need spot and listen checks from both of you.[/SBLOCK]

[SBLOCK=Melara]Melara follows the pair at a discrete distance. There's not much traffic on the concourse this early, although she notices that the stevedores have begun to trickle in for the morning shift.

As the two near the end of the concourse, the ramp on the Dragonfly on the left drops and a fierce looking older man stalks across the concourse and up the open ramp of the Kwai Su Nyao directly opposite. He shouts something up into the bay, but the distance makes it impossible to make out.

OOC: I'll need both hide and move silently checks.[/SBLOCK]

"Now listen Beale, I know things have been scarce out in the deep for us as of recent, but that's no excuse to be taking stuff as don't belong to you."

Cash gestures toward the mule.

"Now, tell your friend downstairs to go find some other doorstep to darken, put back whatever that is in the bag, and the captain don't need to hear about any of this, dong ma?"

Beale pauses for a moment to regard Cash with a look of genuine surprise and amusement. He chuckles as he leans over the railing of the catwalk and shouts down into the darkened bay. "Hold yer gorram horses! I'll be right there!"

He turns back to Cash, shaking his head. "Look, Doc. Maybe you ain't figured it yet, so I'll do you a favor and let you in on a little secret: the cap'n ain't comin' back. He took the profit from the last run, and by now he's pro'lly off-world, boozin' and whorin' it all up. Meanwhile, the rest of us are s'pposed sit here like a bunch o' ignorant ruttin' apes until the dockmaster gets fed up and orders this hulk carted off to the cuttin' yard. Dong ma? So if you're smart, you'll grab as much as you can carry and walk off this boat and never look back."

"Now, maybe I'm not smart, but I sure as hell ain't no pile of go-se that cuts and runs when the chips are down. Let's just close up here, go find the captain, and we can sort this all out."

Kai, generally calm, smiles the wayward smile that usually gets them into a bit of trouble. "I believe that there is my ship, you don't suppose that the crew has figured out their lovely Meade has cut-and-run with their take and taken to looting my ship now?" His hand goes to the revolver at his hip, drawing it out slowly, but keeping it out of sight for the moment.

Kai approaches with Win at his side, when he's within a close-shot of the gentleman yelling into the ship he hefts his sidearm. "I do believe you best step away from my ship and leave whatever it is you thought was yours to its rightful owner, which would be me, dong ma?"

[Intimidate +10 or Diplomacy +11, depending upon your interpretation]

Win draws his sidearm as well. "Ma Shong!"

OOC: +0 aid another to Kai's Intimidate/Diplomacy attempt.

[SBLOCK=Cash]The humor drains from Beale's face and is replaced by his habitual expression of feral animosity.

"Doc, you and me been part o' the same crew for near a year now, but those days are over." He takes another step closer. "I suggest you step aside before I knock you down."[/SBLOCK]

[SBLOCK=Bastion]Beale yells down at the stranger: "Hold yer gorram horses! I'll be right there."

From his position on the gantry, Bastion can see down the ramp as two more figures appear on the concourse below. One of them has a pistol drawn.

"I do believe you best step away from my ship and leave whatever it is you thought was yours to its rightful owner, which would be me, dong ma?"

The stranger in the cargo bay turns to look down at the pair on the ground below him, seemingly uncowed. "The owner of this here ship is Terry Meade, friend. And you don't much resemble him."

Above, Cash and Beale continue their conversation, but Bastion can't quite make out what they're saying.[/SBLOCK]

[SBLOCK=Kai and Win]OOC:Win intimidate, aid another: 1d20+0 -> [17,0] = (17) | Kai intimidate: 1d20+10+2(circumstance for weapon)+2(Win's assistance) -> [15,10,2,2] = (29) | I'll roll this one to keep things moving, but in the future go ahead and make any rolls you think might be useful, and I'll either use or ignore them as seems appropriate.

The man above turns to face Kai and Win, his weathered face betraying more irritation than concern. You notice that his left eye is milky and blind.

"The owner of this here ship is Terry Meade, friend. And you don't much resemble him."

He doesn't seem to be much concerned about having the pistols aimed in his direction, but he does keep his hands at his side and in plain view.

OOC: I still need a spot and listen roll for Kai.[/SBLOCK]

[SBLOCK=Win]Win notices someone moving about 100 yards behind them, down the concourse. It appears they are attempting to avoid being seen.[/SBLOCK]

[SBLOCK=Melara]The pair approach the Kwai Su Nyao and have words with someone standing at the top of the ramp out of your line of sight - possibly the fierce looking man.[/SBLOCK]
