Blindsight vs. Displacement?

That's why your clerical buddy throws down a Silence. If you rule that the dragon's Blindsight is due to hearing... It goes bye.

And let's not forget Blink.

Displacement would be countered by Blindsight since it is a visual only effect.

Mirror Image would not be countered by Blindsight since it is an audio and visual effect.

And, Displacement in a Silence field would not be countered by Blindsight.

Finally, you should create a new spell called Sound Displacement which gives a concealment bonus against characters with Blindsight. The spell makes you sound as if you are actually 2 feet away from where you really are. Sound Displacement is really useful in a Darkness field. :)

KD, your logic works for most creatures with blindsight, but not dragons.

Dragons also use scent and air currents. About the only way to fool a dragon's blindsight is to use Invisibility, Silence, a swarm of bees, a Gust of Wind, and a bunch of Zephyr spells. Dragons don't even need True Seeing...

Thanks for the replies. It doesn't seem like we're reaching any kind of consensus though. The Blindsight of the Sacred Fist is due to sensitivity to vibrations, scent, and acute hearing. I thought maybe narrowing down the type of Blindsight we're talking about might help.

Well, if I agree with myself, that's a consensus...right? ;)

Anyways, Blindsight allows you to "see" without your eyes, using non-visual senses, and Displacement is a visual effect. If a creature has a Blindsight, then it doesn't matter where you "appear" to be, because it knows exactly where you are. Invisibility, and Improved Invisibility, are both glamers, and Blindsight specifically negates both of these.

Imagine if you were blind, okay?

Now, someone started waving a sign around in front of you. Or put a sheet over their head. Everyone else can see this, but you cannot.

Now, imagine if that person is walking. You can hear them.

Blindsight allows you to pinpoint where someone is, by sound (Or some other sense). So you could look like a ghoul, or the Pope, but blindsight won't pick that up. It just hears where you're coming from.

Thus, no visual effects effect it.

And, I am with the concensus that Kreynolds is cuddly. :)
