Bloodied While Dying - Confirmed!

First Post
Jack99 mentioned in his Font of Life (I think that is what it was called) thread that WotC answered some questions on Twitter last night.

The biggest answer I noticed on there was that WotC confirmed that you are blooded while dying.

I posted that in his thread, but has not seen any traction there so I thought I would call it out here.

So, you heard from someone in an unlinked thread that someone at WotC tweeted an answer, and you have no links or references, and that resolves the debate once and for all?! :p

Not that I care, though, since I would play them as bloodied anyway.

I'm going to agree with Infiniti2000 that without sited sources, and this being cleared up in a errata or something similar, where everyone can get it looked at.

I'll continue to do what I currently do.

When you are dying you are in that condition state, and are no longer bloodied as you moved into it on the dying track.. (remember that's what death used to be, a death track) and thus are no longer bloodied as a state. And thus regenerators stop regenerating when they are bloodied.

Basically, there are 3 states, Above Bloodied, Bloodied, and Dying. This prevents certain powers being broken (consecrated ground), shifter regeneration, and so on.

And until it's clarified specifically with stated WotC full on presentations, i.e. updated erratta or similar (and it's not like they can't do it).. I'll go with what we've been doing since it released.

(NOW that said, I wouldn't be overly concerned if they did state that while dying your bloodied, and made it official. But until it is, this is the route I'm going to continue to do, as the players have more than enough resources at their disposal to avoid death.)

Regeneration explicitly doesn't work when you're at 0 or fewer HP. It's really just stuff like Consecrated Ground that this matters for.

My gosh I2K, go to the D&D Twitter Page:

Wizards_DnD (Wizards_DnD) on Twitter

You may have to scroll down a few pages and you will find this:

@cordaxmike RAW, no - the bloodied condition does not end when a character is dying. (official answer)

The original post tells you where you can find it - Twitter. I thought that should be sufficient for those who felt the need to confirm it.

I do suppose though until it appears in a FAQ or Errata its probably not any more official than Customer Service answers. But this is the most definitive answer from an official WotC rep so far.

IMO, I don't like it myself, as I think its silly but thats beside the point.

It's actually a very good ruling, IMHO, because it reads a lot cleaner and is more intuitive. The problem is, of course, sacred ground and their ilk, which could easily just be regeneration.

It's about time this was answered though.

Having Dying without Bloodied was always a gamist answer. They are conditions, mechanically one condition supercedes the other, regardless of whether it makes sense.

Having Dying and Bloodied was always a simulationist answer. Someone is still bloodied when they fall unconscious.

I've personally always prefered the second answer because it makes more logical sense and it followed literal RAW as well (i.e. if below half, then bloodied, -5 is below half).

And, I've never really understood where the first answer came from in the first place other than as a backhanded balancing factor for Consecrated Ground.
