I fully applaud the spirit behind representing non white/male/hetero/cis characters, but I don't think the right way is to re-do everything with poc/female/lgbtq versions of the same characters. Create new characters, new stories. Don't re-do Ghostbusters, create a new franchise.

I think 007 as a woman is the producers way to try to find the middle ground between honoring James Bond and also paying lip service to non-male leads; I suppose it is a bit of pandering, but at least they didn't go the Ghostbusters route with a Jane Bond.

As for the title, meh. It is forgettable but not non-sensical (Quantum of Solace? Sounded cool but what the hell does it mean?). My only complaint is that it is too similar to several previous films (e.g. Live and Let Die).

Don't think about it.

It's Bond you take it as is. It's not really supposed to hold up to logic, common sense etc. It's escapism/fantasy and has never taken itself to seriously.

OHMSS is underated, top 5 Bond movies IMHO.

Underrated? Really? It is high on most lists I've seen. In fact, it is sort of the darling of the Bond critics.

One more thing. I think there was meant to be continuity for the first several Bonds - Connery, Lazenby, and Moore (didn't he visit his wife's grave in a film?). I can't remember, but it might have broken down with Dalton and Brosnan. My memory is that it didn't reference previous films with different actors, but neither did it clearly reboot the series.

Craig was a clear re-boot, though. He was a relatively young agent in Casino Royale.

I do kind of like the idea that "James Bond" is an alias, but I don't think there's anything to think that's true. It is his actual name.

I like the title as a reference to how James Bond retires or exits stage left but there is still a need for a 007, hence not having the luxury of 007 "dying" .

My personal vote for the new 007s first name is Jan, short for Janelle. The family name does not literally have to start with a b, but a simple one or two syllable name with a b or similar sounding letter, like p, would work.

It's the same guy. Just like Batman has been the same guy since the 1930s or whatever, you have to ignore the franchise' longevity and inconsistent timeline. From his wife in Lazenby's OHMSS (mentioned in Moore's TSWLM and FYEO, and Dalton's LtK) to Skyfall where we see his childhood home, parents' graves (their names are Andrew and Monique Bond). He also left the job when he was Dalton, and Craig, and still kept the name James Bond. And he keeps the Aston Martin in a storage locker.
Oh right. I had forgotten about the parents graves.

Well, carry on then. :p

And then, on the other hand, Daniel Craig in Casino Royale had only just been promoted to 00 status at the start of the movie, making his first two confirmed kills as an agent.

Well, that was fun

Yes, but that was a (soft) reboot. Like Batman Begins was a reboot. Doesn't mean Batman wasn't Bruce Wayne when Keaton played him and also when Bale played him.
