Break of Dawn [Manzanita judging] COMPLETED

Eanos, human monk

The old rope bridge spans the chasm at it's narrowest point. You estimate it is somewhere between 40 and 50 feet.

Eanos grimaces at the chasm.

"If it were half as wide, I could hop it with ease," he says. "Perhaps we should try Mordik's safety rope method with the bridge first?"

OOC: Does it look like there's anything we can catch with a grappling hook onto on the other side? If not, we may need to risk the bridge no matter what.

(OOC: Pokes head in--I don't really like potions of Blur, but I do like 150 Gold. If you give it to Ally, she's likely to never use it and just sell it, but that's fine by me! As for the chasm, unfortunately no Know: Architecture for Ally, so she can't appraise the bridge.)

ooc: you can throw a grappling hook at one of the two stone supports on which the ropes of the bridge are attached on the far side (there are two of those on your side as well).

"Let's try the rope" agrees Odno. "I don't see any other way to cross available to us. I'd suggest tieing those ropes to solid supports at both sides of the chasm, and another rope, this time shorter, tied around the ones crossing's waist and the rope, as means of a safety harness, if you understand what I'm trying to convey."

"Now, if we need to get out of there in a hurry, we might have problems."

"I must admit, I do not like the sound of dangling by a rope above this seemingly bottomless chasm. But Odno speaks truly, unless there is some hidden entrance. I will wander the area with Garma and see what we can find." Quarion will rely on his elven secret door sensing ability in addition to searching likely spots (crumbled buildings, rocky places, etc. ) in the nearby vicinity. Garma will attempt to sniff out any trails that suddenly and inexplicably end, and also sniff the edge of the bridge to see if any creature has recently crossed it. If yes, he and Quarion will follow the trail for a ways. (Perhaps a half hour?)

Eanos, human monk

As the elf searches the area, Eanos looks about, sais ready, hoping he doesn't have a need to use them.

Mordik sheathes his silvered weapon. He throws the rope with grappling hook across the chasm, holding the very end of it. After it hooks successfully, he will ask Eanos to help test it by pulling while on safe ground. I'd rather take me time and be safe when I can than be rushin' an' dead.

(ooc: use rope;chasm (1d20+6=19) )

Eanos spots some birds, perhaps ravens, sitting on various covered locations on and around the structure. He can spot as many as six.

Mordik sucessfully secures the rope between the far end of the bridge and your side.

The monk looks across the gorge, his face impassive. "Now that we have our safety line, I suppose there's nothing more than to cross, eh?"

Eanos takes the second rope and gets Mordik's help in securing it around his waist. "I think you're far better with knots than I am, friend," he says by way of thanks.

Thus prepared, Eanos stows his sais to free up his hands, then carefully attempts to cross the rope bridge, holding tightly to the secured line and trusting his companions will catch him should he fall.

"Wouldn't it be safer if we tied this end of the rope to something sturdy enough - a tree, or any other item of suitable stability?" says Odno.
