ooc: I thought the birds were intelligent enough to counter that by moving around, so we had to divide the party in groups (so we can do some cossfire). My idea was two groups, Quarion and Mordik (who won't have problems defending himself from some birds and surely will be better shots) looking for better shooting places, while Eanos and the first levelers ready shots against the birds.

ooc: they are and you do. But since there is only a limitied amount of cover available and i didn;t wan't to micromanage your exact moves i just ruled that you can all get into a good firing position and take you first shot before they birds react to that.

ooc: you can move around at try to take out the birds from different angles. Effectively this will reduce thier cover severely. The average distance is about 70 feet from edge of the chasm. You can postition yourself and take your first shot.

Eanos eyeballs the distance as Ally and Odno line up their shots.

"My sling hasn't nearly the kind of range as your weapons," he admits, frowning. "I think I'll wait to see if your attacks bring the birds closer before I loose mine."

[sblock=OOC]Sling only has a 50' range increment, so I'll have Eanos hold his action, readying a sling shot if any of the birds come within range instead of hoping IC won't hate me. :)[/sblock]

You move around the chasm and find a good spot to shoor at the birds.
Ally launches a crossbow bolt and hits a bird dead on target. The creature is pinned to the stone wall, quiote dead.
Mordik follows his example, although his shot is not as true, he stil manages to kill one of the birds.
Odno barely hits a bird, but manages to kill it anyway.
Quarion launches an arrow and his hit is as true as Ally's. He hits a bird and pins it to the stone, dead.

The remaining bird takes to the sky and flies off into the forest.

"With the bird hunting season over, I think we can go back to our crossing of the bridge" says Odno, proud of being able to hit a bird.

Without the threat of attacking birds you manage to cross the chasm withou much difficulty. Altough the old bridge does object to it. Several planks that crumble underneath you feet but thanks to your extra rope you don't burden the bridge above it's breaking point.

On the other side of the bridge you find yourself in front of the old structure. It is a vaguely pyramid shaped stone builing with large steps leading from the base to a platform on the top. You estimate that it is about 60 feet tall.
At this top there seems to be some kind of platform but you can't see what is on top of it from this far.
The whole structure is adorned with drawing depicting all kinds of scenes.
You can't make out what they depict, since most of it is eroded away in the years.

The steps leading to the top are about one foot high each and the last five steps are distinguishly coloured.

Quarion's face is ever stoic as the birds drop from their perches. He wonders aloud, "It is strange that these animals have been so aggressive on our trip thus far. Why? I believe the answer lies on the other side of this chasm. Shall we?" Quarion wants to let a couple of people cross before Garma goes over the bridge, so in case the wolf slips or the bridge breaks he will have enough support to be ferried across by the ropes.

If there's no feasible way to get Garma across, Quarion will simply bid his friend goodbye for now.
