Break of Dawn [Manzanita judging] COMPLETED

"Don't think you know all, mortal. I am only here because your blood offer summoned me. I am not bound to open this passage for you unless you offer me tribute. You can threaten me all you wish but that won't open this portal, now will it?" The imp sneers at Ali. With that said, it takes for the sky and hovers in the air 50 feet above you.

"Fiend, we do not see clearly your intentions. First, you affirm you can open the passage, but man and dwarf, both quite bigger and stronger than you, have tried without success. Also, you spoke of opening the passage before any of us expressed that desire, and that maes us suspicious: you could have been waiting, invisible, or hidden, and appeared when he" Odno looks at Quarion "made the sacrifice, and try to fool us with your claims of being able to open a way for us."

"Third, we aren't familiar with your customs and bargain prices - in our lands, the task and job of opening doors is a quite low one, and not worthy of much reward. Your claims of a hefty price without which you cannot open the door sounds thus preposterous. Perhaps if you demonstrate the ability to open the way, and express the nature and quantity of the desired reward we could reach an agreement."

ooc: you are not suspicious of the imp's words about him being summoned by the sacrifice or his claims about this 'deal' thing, at least, that's what your sense motive tells you. At least, no more suspicious than anybody should be of an imp.

The imp replies to Odno's statements "Strength is clearly not the key to opening this passage as you have already found out. Believe whatever deception i played on you but that won't open the passage.
The price of any service depends on the availability of it. Since i am your only way of opnening this door i hold what you would call a monopoly. The price of such a thing is quite... variable. The price i ask is either blood or gold. A pint of your blood or a pound of your gold would suffice.
If you choose not to trust me than that's your loss."

(OOC: Is that Odno's Sense Motive, or the check I asked for Eanos awhile back?)

Eanos gives a small laugh. "If you wanted money, you should have just said so," he says. He turns to the others. "Evil or not, I don't see 50 gold pieces as a scary sacrifice. Let's pay the mercenary and be on our way."

Then Eanos freezes, looking back at the imp and crossing his arm.

"Don't suppose this price includes a guarantee we can get back out this way again? Or is that where you really gouge us?"

ooc: Well, I was testing the possibility of tricking him into opening the passage, that I believed him or not wasn't important.

ooc: that was pretty much everybody's sense motive check. As for tricking the imp,

The imp smiles as Eanos seems to agree to his bargain "I garantee neither your safe return nor the opposite. I am only here to open the passage for said said price. After that i will return from where i came. Now let's have the pound of gold and be done with this."

With a look at Eanos and then the imp, I'll pay part a'the gold. A quick unspoken thought as Mordik grips the blade in his hands: I'd rather pay the cursed thing in silver.

*Aletheia grimaces slightly. As if sensing Mordik's thoughts, she cocks her head at him as if to say 'Why not both'?*

(OOC: By my count, you have a reasonable chance of one-shotting it if you win initiative with a sneak attack just after it opens the way)

(OOC: you assume it has to touch the block or the coins to move them...)

(OOC: Ally currently has no reason to assume it can get the coins through any other means. It might use magic to open the gate remotely, but it will have to come down to get the coins, as far as she knows)
