Break of Dawn [Manzanita judging] COMPLETED

For Clarity's sake: Quarion's survival is high enough to automaticly succeed with (or even without) a take 10. So if you want you can have any kind of small forest dwelling animal at hand if you cross the bridge again and search for it in the woods.

OOC: Sounds reasonable, though we should probably keep using the safety rope for crossing.

I guess we're waiting on me.

Quarion reluctantly crosses back over the bridge, using the safety rope and leaving Garma behind. He slips into the woods and reemerges a bit later carrying a small rabbit by the feet. When he reaches the bridge, he puts the rabbit into his pack and pulls the drawstring tight. He crosses again and pulls the rabbit out. Garma drools a bit. The rabbit looks dazed, like it was hit over the head or something. Quarion shrugs and says, "The forest always has gifts for those willing to receive." He takes the animal inside the temple but does not place it on the altar. His brow furrows.

After a moment of thought, he says, "I cannot help but feel like I am betraying Verdante by sacrificing this animal here, like this. Are we wise to potentially incur the wrath of our gods before we venture into a lair of demonic taint?"

Mordik shrugs, I dunna think a single sin damns us, but our want when sinning. Then again, who knows when it comes to gods? They're confusing: the lot of them.

"Whereas I don't see how this could possibly be seen as a sin in the first place," Aletheia sighs, "In the texts, it says that respectful animal sacrifice is an important part of many if not most Druidic faiths, including Good-aligned ones. Some believe it shows the animal's spirit that the spirit is being respected and not killed for sport and that the ceremony is part of a promise to use all of the animal that we can, as Nature would want it. I can't see how performing the Druidic ceremony left by the goodly Druids who defeated the great demon is a sin at all."

"Yes. Yes, you are both right. Of course the gods know even our deepest desires, so surely they know we have nothing but respect for this druidic temple. And if it is cursed, perhaps this act of druidic magic will help ward off the demons and aid our quest.". Reassured and confident, he sets about preparing a meal out of the rabbit as he usually would, only on the altar's surface. He whispers thanks to Verdante and the spirit of the rabbit as he slits its fragile throat.

Don't know much about preparing a rabbit for eating, and I don't feel like looking it up, so I'll leave the rest to your imagination. Also, he probably would clean the altar... somehow? I'm hardly a woodsman, but Quarion knows. =P

Quarion slits the throat of the rabbit and the little animal starts to die as it's life blood seeps onto the altar.
The stone of the altar almost seems to drink up the blood, as the blood quickly drains away in the tiniest of holes in the stone. No later than the moment on which the rabbit sighs it's last breath a reddish flash seems to eminate from the altar.
Suddenly, a small creature appears sitting on top of the altar, grinning at Quarion.
The creature has red skin, batlike wings and could best be described as a little devil.

As it sits on the edge of the altar, grinning at Quarion, it speaks to him in a squeeking voice with a slight purr in it: "Why thank you. Did you enjoy that as much a I did?".

Quarion's stomach drops when the little demon appears in a flash of red. I should have listened to my instincts. Verdante, forgive me. He backs away from the altar and grabs his quarterstaff from his back. "Get away, fiend. This temple was once a tribute to nature, and it shall be one again."

"Accursed fiend of law--Eat silver!" Aletheia cries, "Oh shoot, that's right--I didn't have anything with silver."

*Her cheeks redden, embarrassed.*

(OOC: Kn: Planes is 17, so I don't know if it's appropriate to know the identity of the imp or specific resistances and regenerative abilities, but if it's clearly a devil, she already knows that silver sometimes works on them from earlier)

The imp snickers at Quarion's reaction "Go away? So soon? Make up your mind druid, you summoned me, remember.."
At Aletheia words it turnbs it little head and growls at her "Watch that tone or i might decide not to be as nice as i ought to be."
Then it turns it's attention back to Quarion "So, druid, i assume you will be wanting me to open this passage here for you? Or do you have other desires i might fullfill." It speaks with a playfull yet sinister grin.

[sblock=Aletheia's knowledge of imps]She knows it is an imp. Se knows Imps are immume to fire and poison, resistant to acid and cold, see perfectly in darkness, are able to summon other devils and have the power of telepathy. She also knows that these devils are best fought with silver weapons or blessed weapons.[/sblock]
