There's a difference between non-Chinese characters who are swearing in mangled Mandarin (as it's clearly not their first language) and a supposed speaks-Chinese-only girl who actually doesn't. I wonder, is it really that difficult to find an Asian actress who actually speaks Cantonese (or Mandarin, they could have easily switched dialects for the script), for such a (presumably) minor part?

And Buffy really didn't know what to think of Wood. But she trusted him more than she didn't.

As I said, these are minor quibbles. But true craftsmanship, in any form of art, is in the details. Details make or break the final product.

I could also see the Spike-killed-mom thing right from when wood said he was the son of a slayer. I also thought Ashanti's acting was lacking, but that's just me.

Yeah, she thinks Wood is evil, gets ambushed by a bunch of vamps where he lead them, and doesn't even watch him. If he'd been evil, then what?

And they were after Wood... that seems silly on many level too.

I thought it was a great episode. It had the right mixture of humour and plot advancement.

I especially liked Giles' flash cards, Andrew reading the instructions for the microwave (he had what looked like a green highlighter with him) and subsequent encounter with the First, the whole Principal/Son of the Slayer thing and Giles' outburst at the end.

Well worth my time watching.

... especially since we knew that Spike had killed an African-American Slayer in the late 60s/early 70s...

Agreed. I loved the Anya/Buffy conversation. Anya's character never ceases to be funny in every scene.

Andrew continues to be interesting and funny. The Buffy/Spike relationship is a tad dry, but maybe that's because it kinda old hat at this point. Still entertaining, tho.

I liked the new oriental protential. Very funny stuff! I liked the Wood background even though I (and everyone else here) saw it coming a mile away. Should spice things up a bit. Just add Faith and stir...

Originally a double post (grr!)...

I'll just use this space for my small problems with this ep...

Giles' escape: I liked it (because it was mundane and not over the top) but at the same time found it just a bit unsatisfying after all the build-up. And I do wish they'd move the plot along a bit. I sense a massive payoff coming soon but the whole Valentine's Day theme seemed like a bit much. I kinda wish they'd stayed on Xander a bit and played it out more. Like who are all these folks coming out of the woodwork that know about The First? Yeah, a big 'ol war is brewing and things are gonna go down, but it's all just talk at this point.

But, these are all minor gripes. I was very entertained overall and can't wait to see where this is all going.

BTW - I have to ask a question about Andrew. When the "Nerdy Three" got together, I remembered Johnathon and Warren, but I had no idea who Andrew was. I remember when someone asked him what he did he said something about summoning winged monkeys or something at the high school. I thought it might be the one about the three hellhounds at the prom, but the guy controlling them wasn't Andrew (unless they just got a new actor)

Since then I have watched Buffy seasons 1-3 on DVD and still don't remember seeing Andrew anywhere. Can someone tell me what episode he was in?
