I have the distinct feeling that everyone missed the reading between the lines. He said he getting out of writing for games - 4e probably isn't it. He said he left WotC to write fiction - I'm guessing that he finally sold one of his manuscripts and is now under a deadline to start hacking out chapters.

Actually he said that there was one game product yet to come next year, that it was one he couldn't refuse, and that it wasn't comign out from Malhavok. I doubt its 4e (since he said that it was coming out next year) and I don't think its Dark Matter d20, as his name on that is largely because the fluff he wrote for the previous edition is still in the book. I would bet its a WotC book and given his background I would almost suspect its something Planar.

I knew his talent wouldn't remain limited to RPG's for long. I wish him all the best, but I'll be sad to see his contribution to RPG's come to an end. (?) Of course who knows what the future holds?

Seeing how mr. cook is jumping out of the D20 business, i'm guessing 4e. But to be honest i couldn't see that as being so increadibly kewl, unless of course he got carte blanche...

I'm sad to see monte go, i was kind of hoping of extended support for Ptolus (adventure wise, maybe a novel or two)...

Yeah, Dark Matter comes out in September now that I think on it. I don't think it has anything to do with 4e though. I know Monte loves himself some planes though. So maybe Plansecape 3.5 one shot.
