Can some one explain the Fighter's damage

Psst, it is not a math playtest. You are not supposed to know the mechanics behind the different numbers. Just report if the numbers work. (Great axes using different damage dices in How to Play and on the Fighter sheet, too).

Then what happens if fighter picks up different weapon? Why they put different weapons at all in player guide if you are not supposed to test them?

BTW, to-hit bonus of wizard also looks strange. According to rules, he should have +5 on spells (+3 stat, +2 wizard), but on character sheet he has +6. Not a math playtest, but should we use +5 or +6 to hit for his spells not mentioned in attack section?

as I already posted above, the axe in the fighter entry uses two smaller dices for rolling damage and the same weapon in the guide uses one big dice. (I would be more specific, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the actual numbers.)

I have a theory on that extra +2 to damage, but it really is just conjecture.

Perhaps the fighter always gets a +2 to damage, and the weapon focus +2 is a different bonus entirely, and in later versions of the fighter it will be exchangeable for different abilities.

Or there's always the bad maths possibility, which I'm attributing to the cleric of Moradin's AC, since 17 is still higher than all the others.

I also have a theory on the +2 damage that is unspoken for. The fighter is adding his constitution to his damage.

This could be one of those customization options we're not seeing. Perhaps this build gets +1 attack, +Con damage at level 1, twice per day Fighter's Surge at level 2. A different fighter build might get +1 AC, half their Con as damage resistance while wearing heavy armor, and twice per day Second Wind at level 2. Yet another fighter build might get +1 attack, +dex damage at level 1, twice per day Riposte (an attack as a reaction to being missed) at level 2.

We just don't have a whole lot to go by at this point.

Guys, just read the attack rules...

- Melee weapons use Str modifier to damage (except Finesse weapons which can alternatively use Dex)

- Ranged weapons use Dex modifier damage

This explains the +2 difference, because the Fighter has +3 Str and +1 Dex.

The base bonus damage is probably a class feature, of course hard to tell since it's "embedded" in the numbers.

.. Please? I can't figure out how they got + 7 for the ax and + 5 for the xbow.

From the information on the sheet, there is no explaining it. It does mention a damage bonus, but that plus stats only puts you at +5/+3.

In the rules we have on weapons, no mention of a bonus to dmg for 2 handed fighting (that i saw), no reason why the great axe does the two dice version of damage or anything else.

If they are mistakes, they're mistakes, if they're hidden math, they're hidden math. We will not know.

The attack bonus isn't well explained either.

Don't sweat it too much, just go with the flow, and if the fighter picks up another weapon, just assume the hidden bonuses follow until they tell you not to.....
