Can someone explain the ridiculous Alias finale?

I stopped watching this season and now I hear they finally revealed the Rimbaldi device and see Resident Evil overtones in the opening.

What gives?

Actually, I'd like to know also.

I watched last season's finale (where Sloan and his daughter triumphantly fade into the woodwork, being the only ones to know where Rimbaldi's Endgame is). And then this season opened with Sloan working with Sidney and the others at APO. I didn't watch the rest of this season.

Having watched most of the finale I think I can figure out at least one thing. I remember in the beginning seasons they had two examples of Rimbaldi devices that levitated balloons of water.

I guess that building was a super sized version. To levitate water and then make it explode or evaporate into the atmosphere after their radio signal changed the water's chemical composition into a zombification potion.

However, I have no idea why Rimbaldi was a crazy old man who apparently decided to destroy the world. Or who the 3rd Irina/Zarina/Ballerina sister was. And I thought one of them was killed by Jack?

I also want to know what David Carridine told Sloane in the ancient mountain top monastery a couple years ago.

Did Blofeld kill Sydney and Vaughn at the end?

As convoluted and cheesy this season of Alias was, I still enjoyed it. *shrugs*

To answer specific questions from above, check spoilers below.

The Rambaldi device (referred to as Mueller, sp?) was mentioned as possibly being used for good or evil. This one just happened to be used for evil. The third Derevko sister, Elena (Sonia Braga) has been the mastermind behind various terrorist cells and Rambaldi plots for the past five years, apparently.

She used mind-cloning technology and a look-a-like to make Jack Bristow think he killed his ex-wife, Irina Derevko, in an effort to protect his Sydney.

She also spiked the water supply of this Russian town (and many other strategic locations around the world) so that when the big red ball was activated, it would make people become embodiments of aggression.

As far as the message on the mountain is concerned, I can't remember exactly what was said. But I don't believe it really illuminated that much, and when it was revealed, it was a bit of a letdown. The secrets never quite pay off when they're revealed in Alias. Even this apocolyptic situation, with accents of "28 Days Later," felt hollow and empty.

Anyways, despite the less than stellar season, the bleepin' cliff-hanger will definitely get me tuned in next year.

Spoiler response:
Actually, it was Sloan who spiked it 3 years ago when he was running the charity. Minor point but I wanted to mentioned it.

Agreed. This was the weakest season by far of Alias, especially compared to the first two. But it was still good overall. It took a while to get going but once the real plot kicked in (right about the time Vaughn started his investigation into his father) it was entertaining again.

Damn cliffhanger. Didn't see that coming at all. Not fair.

Ya know, this is one of the things that keeps me watching. The finale to season two was infuriating because we still don't know what the fallout was.

Not only was there the Sloan/Monk conversation but what about Sloan's offer to Jack? We still don't know what that was all about.

Nah. There has to be a payoff. ;)

Really? Alias has ended every season as a cliffhanger. No sense stopping that now.

And since they were in a car, talking right at the very end, I kept thinking "accident". BANG!

(Somebody beat me to the Alias thread - I was going to post a thread title "[ALIAS] of the Dead?" Wacky.)

And yeah, they mentioned in a previous episode that the device could be used for good or evil - that the device is seemingly meant to placate the masses (for peace). And yes, it was Sloane who spiked the food/water supply. Remember sometime near the end of Season 3 (or beginning of Season 4?) when Sloane was running Omnifam, and someone asked him "what was in the supplies you sent to all those countries...?".

But it was definitely the worst season so far. And that whole Vaughn thing at the very end was pretty lame, IMO.

What happened to that Sphere of Life thingy that Nadia used to heal Sloane? They never showed her use it or how it work only Sloane talking about being born again (or some such).

Certainly that cheesy battle on the roof top can't be the epic struggle that the Rambaldi symbol represents ( "<0>" ).

And OUCH:eek: , on the car.
That's nothing. The cast seems to routinely get shot, stabbed, skewered, tortured and beat down without the slightest scar or limp. Heck, Jack was exposed to fatal doses of radiation and the only result was he had to use a cane for just one episode.

Sloane is still all 'redeemed' at the end of the episode. Damnit! Sloane should be evil by now.

Sloane really needs to get back to some good evildoing.
