OK, we know its too big for a movie, even a TV mini series is too small. But what if they did something like JMS did with Babylon 5? It would be told as a number of TV seasons? Now who do you want in the leads?

The guy who played Duke Leto in the Dune mini-series for Eddard
Sean Connery for Robert Baratheon
Patrick Stewart for Tywin Lannister (Might need a wig)
Michael Ironside for Stannis

Funny, I immediately thought of Patrick Stewart for Tywin too, he's a perfect match.

Caetlyn: Nicole Kidman
Brienne: Lucy Lawless
Tyrion Lannister: Verne Troyer (Mini-me!)
Arya: Alexa Vega (Spy Kids)

Actually, I think Patrick Stewart would make a better Stannis Baratheon, and not just for looks.

Verne Troyer would be great in the role of Tyrion Lannister.

I'm thinking Paul Wight could play Gregor Clegane (The Big Show from WWE...I know it's a stretch, but he's the largest person I know with anything remotely resembling acting experience).

Jamie Lannister: Stewart Townsend
Cercei Lannister: Gwynneth Paltrow
Ser Kevan Lannister: P. H. Moriarty (Gurney Halleck from Children of Dune)

And I'd really, really like to see Haley Joel Osment play Joffrey Baratheon :)

Well if it were made into a tv series, I'd say it ought to be done on some network like HBO or something. That way it can keep the origonal style of the books, like the gratuituous violence and the foul language. It just wouldn't seem the same without the cussing and head cutting.

Comments on these.

Patrick Stewart as Stannis - aye, definitely.

Mini Me as The Imp - wouldn't people have too much a preconceived notion of what Troyer's character would be like? But then, I don't know too many other dwarf actors - the guy who played Vonkar in Willow would be kinda cool. Alternately, the preconceived notion of Troyer could throw people off when he starts cleaving heads in battle. ;)

As for Gregor... he's somewhat too old, but Richard Kiel would be cool. Mebbe. Or do a Darth Vader type thing, where we cast one person to play Gregor and another to do voice-over (since we'd mostly see Gregor in armor). The Big Show could be Hodor. ;)

Too bad Richard Harris is dead, he'd have made a good Lord Frey. Gary Oldman would be good as Littlefinger, and the guy who played Krycek on X-Files would be good, as well. Both have a roguish quality to them I think Littlefinger should. And I don't know why, but I see Gabriel Byrne or William Dafoe as Lord Bolton.

I'm stuck on who to cast as Daenerys or as Melisandre.

I think Danica McKellar ("Winnie" in The Wonder Years) would make a good Daenerys. Admittedly it would be better if she were a few years younger, but I think she could pull of the young Daenerys plenty well while looking appropriately older in later books.

Ooh, Willem Dafoe would be an awesome Lord Bolton! He's just got that creepy quality that I always associate with the Lord of the Dreadfort.

As to Tyrion, upon reflection Verne Troyer could bring some unwanted baggage to the role, so how about Danny Woodburn, the guy who played Angelo in Death to Smoochy?

I'm thinking Leelee Sobieski might bring justice the the character of Sansa.

What the heck, I'll play. Here's a few that stuck with me through the books. Hope I get the names right; it's been a while.

Daenerys -- Julia Stiles
Caetlyn Stark -- Joanne Whalley
Eddard Stark -- Liam Neeson
Cercei Lannister -- Monica Potter
Jamie Lannister -- Heath Ledger (seriously)
Qhorin Halfhand -- Ted Nugent
