Character Submission Thread

Okay. I took a first look at Canasta.
a) I tweaked several format areas by replacing "Misc" with the appropriate value. It is easier to see the info than to scroll up and down to figure out what the Misc might be.
b) Big one here. Since you are replacing Audra Frost, you (can if you want to) start at the minimum XP and GP for 6th level. You don't have to start all the way back at first level.

So, a major difference there to figure out first.

Yeup. I elected to start her at first as opposed to taking her on up to six. Will give me a chance to really get a good feel for the planned personality and will give me a chance to RP with both some of the older folks and some of the newer players. So the Level 1 submission is my intent. :)

Okay. Three last comments on her.
a) Ventriloquism. Boring and nearly useless spell. Spontaneous spell casters need to chose spells that they are sure they will use every day until get a few under their belt. You can take that spell, when it is your sixth choice of the level, and its not bad. But at first level when you can only choose two, it is a very non-optimal choice. Cure Light Wounds, Timely Inspiration, Saving Finale or Silent Image etc are more likely to see use.

b) Go shopping. LPF has a 100% sell back policy, so go spending until you are down to about 5 gp left. When in doubt, Potion of CLW, Alchemist Fire, 5 days rations are all good fillers. And I will give my obligatory "Buy a dagger, it is hard to skin a rabbit with a shortsword." There are probably 30 useful items under 5 gp a piece. If you want examples, go look at any of my characters. They are ready for almost any situation. It seems silly, but Kalgor has used the drill before. And twine, blanket, wineskin of brandy and more.

c) I would take advantage of the Favored Class bonus for humans and pick another cantrip instead of using it for a skill point. The Alternative Cantrips are also available to choose from.

But, the magic words you have been waiting for, Canasta Emeraldas has her first APPROVAL of two.

Quick scan returns one problem that needs to be addressed for Grimblade before an approval, that's Traits need to be selected.
Also, the mods should be added in with the attributes (which I can do if the player is still standing by waiting)
I would say fix the mods, as that is straight forward. Then, you leave it for the player to pick their traits.

You always give such excellent advice, SK. :)

a) ventriloquism is there as RP fluff for her, given her background having trained as a performing bard with her mentor. You make a great point that I can bring that along in a level or two and pretend she's always had it just had not been using it, that would make sense and having a cure spell would make her useful. I'll get onto that.

b) Trying to balance what she would have to travel with her low carrying capacity. Dagger is a good idea for her, for sure. For traveling, rations and a skin are also good suggestions. Will eyeball those. :)

c) Wasn't too sure about that one. Decided to go with the skill point, but this is the first caster I have made that has actually been submitted for review, so I am getting up to speed on that. You have a cantrip recommendation?

And WOO on the first approval :D that means I can pull her into DWI now, right?

if you would have made her level 6, sh could have joined Mowgli's band of ragamuffin scamps.

He had a spot for Audra opened, but it wasn't something i wanted to do with her, so told him to go ahead if he had someone else willing and able to go. If I have to wait a few weeks to get her into action, that works.

Cantrip Suggestions:
Jolt so she has one offensive spell.
Umbrella if she is prissy and doesn't like getting her hair wet.
Drench if she needs to shower twice a day and wear lots of perfume.
Or the grandmaster of spells, which a bard should have taken first, Prestidigitation.

DWI, yes.

LOL!

Thought about Jolt. Umbrella wouldn't effect her much, being a farm girl. I like Scott's take on Drench. LOL. And of course I thought I had given her Presti. So that's the natural landslide winner.

Looking at Canasta:

1) Changed Slash to Pierce for Shortsword
2) Linguistics is a class skill; added it
3) Changed Disguise Ability Modifier to 3 vice 1; adjusted total skill points

APPROVED.
