clarification on sneak attack

Threatening with a ranged attack

I dont have my books here but(from memory), you can threaten with a ranged attack if

*you have the PrC pearless archer from the WotC book Silver Marches. I think that you get the ability to threat at lvl 8 and it will ONLY work on targets that are 10' away. Not 5' or 15' away.

*you have the PrC Master of the Order of the bow. It's in Dragon 297. It's an epic PrC and you will need atleast 7 lvls of OotB. On the first lvl you will get the ability to threat 5' away. On lvl 9 you will get the ability to threat up to 30' away.

Hehehe - you must be new to the forums if you think this is a "huge" can of worms :)

If it's under 8 pages it's not even a can :)

Aye, most of the boards I have been posting on anything with more then 7 or eight replys qualifies as a "can" LOL. I am really liking these boards maybe I will have to stick around here a bit...

Yeah, these are good forums if you're serious about D&D or d20 in general. Obviously, there are topics that get a little heated and some people are less friendly/more abrupt than others, but mostly everyone is here to help with rule problems/questions

Don't forget to take a look at the Story Hour Forums too - some excellent reading in there.

if you wanna cut down on the amount of times per round a rogue can sneak attack during melee if they have more then one attack it's this wonderful thing called maneuverability. a simple 5' step can unflank and make the rogue move more then 5' if they want to flank you again.

Actually, if you really wanna cut down on a rogue's sneak attacks per round, just kill 'em. YMMV of course.

Well you can't just have a giant hand come down from the sky and kill them.... Ok well you could but it wouldn't be kewl, so ya do the manueverability thing until they get killed

Destil mentioned
Climbing creatures are denied their dex bonus to AC. As are swimming ones. (Unless they have climb or swim speeds)

A very often overlooked option.
Don't forget that anyone doing a full Run action (x4 move, x3 in heavy armor), they also lose their Dex bonus...

Nasty combination: casting Fear on the enemy while the rogue archer waits for a good shot in the back when they turn tail...

Hi all,
I'm he DM in question on this thread.
I would think that a monster when in combat is not going to loose sight of a thief that is trying to stab it in the back
My suggestion:
Digest everything mentioned in this thread, and then leave the 2E terminology and way of thinking at the door.
