D&D 5E Cleric Domains

Sadrik I was only including those domains that were popular with Pathfinder or the core books for 3.5, not all the accessories. MANY of the domains listed are kinda too specific or even unnecessary, like "cavern", really?

I see some potential for more domains (darkness, fire, earth, air, water) but I can't see much use for a most of them.

Darkness is pretty much covered by Trickery, Fire by Light and Air by Tempest. Earth you could argue is covered by Nature, although I find that less convincing. Water seems the biggest omission.

Sadrik's list has reminded me that I am going to be very, very careful about allowing any more domains.

Base on the list of 3.5 domains, I broke them up into what I think would be good splits. I added 7 more domains. So I think the added ones should be:
Artifice: This could be named many different things but represents commerce and craft and money
Community: This could be named good, or some other similar concept such as hearth, civilization or something.
Darkness: Shadows, night, darkness and the moon.
Death: This one is in the new DMG? If not it needs to be.
Fate: This is destiny, fate, luck and time. It feels like it should be separate from knowledge.
Justice: Yeah this one is missing. Could be named protection, law or some other similar concept.
Strife: Evil, yeah this one should be in the DMG too I hope.

An Ocean/water domain is necessary, and I would really like a Earth/Cavern domain. I still think a Air and Fire domain wouldn't hurt (again, because of ToEE connection) though I guess trickery does do darkness fairly well.

Don't forget Peace and Love, man! Give Peace and Love a chance! ;) More seriously, they are big divine concepts. Perhaps they can even be combined (so charm magic, soothing magic, etc.).

I agree r.e. Water/Sea and an Earth/Cavern domain (the latter also ideal for mining deities).

But the Trickery domain includes exactly one feature or spell related to darkness in any way.

You can make a better case for Fire/Light and Air/Tempest, but the Light domain is heavily slanted toward good guy stuff. What about a cleric of a god of fire as destruction, arson, etc.? What about a god of clean, still air? That's kind of the opposite of Tempest.

Too redundant guys, ANY elemental domain now falls under Tempest, real simple, no need to complicate things.

No, Tempest utterly fails to represent Earth or Fire.

Just because there is an existing list doesn't mean that everything needs to fit on that list.

How many of those are redundant? A Death, Undeath AND Necromancer domain? Mentalism and Mind? Cold and Winter?

I see some potential for more domains (darkness, fire, earth, air, water) but I can't see much use for a most of them.

A lot of them were simply an excuse to make new spells written for the book available to clerics. Having simple options for spell list swapping would negate a lot of that need.

Maybe subdomains would be a better answer? Just replace a few spells and a feature or two of an an existing domain to make a subdomain.

A Fire subdomain of Light would make a lot of sense, for example.
