Cleric Spontaneous Cure + Meta magic

I know that the rules allow for a Cleric to swap out any spell for a Cure wounds / Inflict wounds spell. Can a cleric apply Metamagic to spells cast in this manner if the swap out a spell of the appropriate level?

In most cases, this is not worth doing, but the Reach Spell feat from Complete Divine may be worth doing for Inflict wounds spells in some cases.

Yes, BUT doing so increases your casting time to a full round action.

Isn't there a feat (primarily intended for sorcerers) that lets you meta-magic a spontaneous spell faster, or is it a PrC ability? (Or am I making it up? I have no idea.) Assuming it exists, is it at all applicable to clerics?

Not correct. A cleric cannot spontaneously convert domain spells or spells from other classes.

It's highly worth doing IMO. An empowered cure serious wounds will be better in most cases (combat) than a mass cure light wounds, IME anyway.

phindar, the PHII has a sorcerer variant that let's you swap your (useless) familiar to be able to use metamagic like a real mage. It's called Metamagic Specialist.
