D&D (2024) Command is the Perfect Encapsulation of Everything I Don't Like About 5.5e

And that's a perfectly reasonable line to set at your table. But you can't expect the entire hobby to follow suit, and be shocked when it doesn't.
Again, my whole issue is philosophy that I feel encourages ignoring the lines like that and then crying "muh creativity" when people get mad about it. And I feel old Command encouraged exactly that.

And I've never seen any evidence of that, and find it highly unlikely. If someone's going to do something like that, they'll do it regardless of any spell description, because no spell is more open-ended than simple free roleplay.

To be fair, there are always gamers, and games don't have to be in print to be played. They're not really making more B/X, for example.

The industry may (or may not) need WotC, but the community, IMO, does not.
The community however can't shut up about the industry.

Because despite saying they don't care, the community wants more stuff for their preferred playstyle.

Ah yes, the "fan" who would rather see their fandom dead than be something they don't like.

I've seen a lot of chatter today about how The Acolyte isn't getting a second season, and people are treating it like a victory. Yay, less Star Wars. Make it lose money! If we keep trying to kill it, then they will obviously bow to the fan demands rather than write it off and just sell nostalgic t-shirts and mugs to wistful fans on their 9000th viewing of The Empire Strikes Back...

But I'm sure you have already decided to go with what Paizo or Kobold or whatever indie dev you like is and none of this will matter. D&D's death will only make the market shift to them and a golden age will flourish. There is no chance that The RPG market with contract back to niche status and games will be harder to find. Just as long as greedy Hasbro is punished for the Cardinal Sin of not making a game you like.
I mean, these "fans" won the 4e edition war. Why shouldn't they continue doing what they did? It worked before.

You are free to ban whatever you want at your table. Old command did not encourage bad behavior. The person who finds it funny will find any way to add it.

Making spells boring kills fun.

Personally, bring back balance by bringing back some of the flavor like resurrection putting you on your back for a week.
