Conjuration vs. Evocation

This might belong in the rules forum but I thought it was a little too philosphical.

All the damage spells (minus necromancy which makes sense to me) are in the Evocation school. Except for Acid Arrow. Again, that makes sense (at least to me) you conjure up some acid that lasts for a while.

Maybe "All" is misused in the above paragraph.

Anywho, so why does the Miniatures Handbook list the Energy orb spells as Conjuration not Evocation?
They started out as Evocation in Tome and Blood.
Their duration is of the instanteous variety (like Magic missile and fireball).
That doesn't seem to make sense to me.

Also, would Ice Knife (from T&B) still be conjuration. It doesn't make sense to me but hey, what do I know?

If someone could explain this to me I would appreciate it!
Thanks!

To me, this should be determined by the fluff associated with the spell. If the wizard who researched the spell did it by learning to tap another dimension, it would be conjuration. If however it was just another flavor of fireball, evocation is fine.

However, this is not a perfect world or game, and we have the issue you bring up. Consider this: Consecrate and Hallow are Evocation spells. How does that fit into your cosmology and what does it mean for other spells?
