D&D 5E (2024) Conjure Minor Elemental One Year+ On

Not mine, or at least not combinations of things. Like, nobody feels like they own fireball or spiritual guardians, so everyone uses a lot of those. But things like the old Polearm Master + Sentinel only happened a few times across all my games.

And even simple things sometimes get avoided. Like a cleric who used spiritual guardians a lot never used spiritual guardians again, despite playing multiple clerics across the years, because he had "already done that."

(He DID use it when he played BG3 :geek:)
BG3 has a lot of items buffing spiritual guardians;).

Only if you assume
-it's up before battle and/or quicken / action surge
-cast at level 6+ slot
-you have 3+ attacks per round, preferably with advantage.
-you don't lose concentration while being 15' away from enemies.
-you only consider single target damage.

Then yes.

For a typical Valor bard or Bladesinger with 2 attacks, or Moon Druid with 3 inacctuate attacks, it's right in line with other spells.
Even if you add Polearm Master it's fine.

You need to specifically build for it (i.e. Valor Bard 11, Warlock 2, Sorcerer ▪X) to really make it pop. But outside a 1 shot i don't see that happening.

I'm not a fan of the Valor bard one. I think its a theory craft build for youtube thumbnail.

Its good single target damage but I think in a real game wizards the only viable build using scorching ray.

Druid with spellfire flare or an Eberron sorcerer seems to be best non core options. Eberron warlock or fighter as well.

I have seen lots of casters and I have seen it used in play at 20th level. It has not been OP in games I have played so far. I would say in terms of in-game performance it has been B tier generally. Situationally it has been awesome at times, but most of the time it is used it is average or below average for the slot cost.

The round you spend casting it really hurts the effectiveness and the concentration doesn't help, especially since there is a chance of losing it before the first time it pays off.

In terms of power Chromatic Orb is generally (not always) a better use of a high level slot if you are fighting multiple enemies and want to deal damage. If it is a single big bad with legendaries, a really good spell that effects him RIGHT NOW or buffs your allies RIGHT NOW is generally better.

Well 10 minute duration thats potentially 2 or 3 fights.

Only if you hold on to concentration, which you almost certainly won't for 3 difficult fights if you are dealing 100 DPR. And if only the first fight where you cast it is difficult then does it really matter?

Also I think 1 fight is more common than either 2 or 3 even if you hold concentration.

In play this is not one of the most powerful spells I have seen using 2024 rules.

I suspect druid with warcaster and spellfire spark might be the best way to use it.

It would be funny seeing s wizard flunked a wisdom save at higher levels vs fear and be unable to get close enough.

As I said the main "build" was a theorycraft build. Almost unplayable from lvl 1.

Bladesiinger wizard might be your best non eberron bet.

It does not work with Spellfire Spark. Sacred Flame is not an attack.

If you fail a save vs the Fear spell you need to drop what you are holding (your focus usually) and flee. IME Fear is much more powerful in play than CME generally, except against creatures with legendary resistance. Fear is arguably the best 3rd level spell in the game.

Generally though the 15 foot range is a big limfac and it would be a lot more powerful without this.

Bladesiinger wizard might be your best non eberron bet.

I've seen it in play on a Bladesinger/Rogue. I will have it on my Bladesinger/Winter Ranger I plan to start playing in April. That character will end with 16 Bladesinger levels (unless she dies), I will let you know how it works for me.

Spellfire Flare iirc. Lvl 1 spell in AoF.
