Has anybody watched this show on the History Channel?
I highly recommend it...especially when they feature stuff dealing with medieval warfare.
They go into detail about how weapons and armor are used and why. Very informative.
Last night they were talking about how at the Battle of Hastings the housgarls (sp) got beat despite using what D&Ders call a great axe. William the Conquerer used a combined bowmen and calvary to defeat them.
Because if you got close to these guys, they would either hack through your shield or to a manuver that cause you to turn slightly away from them so they could kill you easy.
And they demonstrated how this was done by dressing up in armor and whatnot. It was great.
There's episode on tonight where they explain the use of the bow.
It's on Sundays at 9:30 CT.
It's on after Mail Call--another good show.
I plan on using what I learn from Conquest to describe battles better in my games.
Has anybody else seen this show?
What do you think?
