Converting Oriental Adventures creatures

Was wondering about maybe increasing the Carnivorous version's swarm damage to 3d6 and making it CR 4.

Also wondered about tweaking the Carnivorous version's abilities to Dex 12, which'd make it:

Armor Class: 13 (+2 size, +1 Dex), touch 13, flat-footed 12
Attack (Swarm): Swarm (3d6) [?]
Attack (Individual): Bite +3 melee (1d6–3)
Saves (Swarm): Fort +6, Ref +4, Will +3
Saves (Individual): Fort +2, Ref +1, Will +0
What do you think?

Also am a bit unsure about the Environment.

The original Carnivorous Beetle Swarm was at the entrance to the subterranean portion of OA2, so I think adding "underground" to the environment made sense, but it doesn't feel essential to the regular beetle.

Am contemplating changing it to:

Environment (Beetles): Warm or temperate plains and forests
Environment (Carnivorous Beetles): Warm plains and forests or underground

Tiny size is ok. Should we put "monstrous" in the swarm name also? And is "carnivorous" and "monstrous" together a bit of overkill?

Your suggested changes to the swarm damage and environment work for me.

Otherwise, these seem about done!

So change it to Monstrous Beetle Swarm?

That works for me.

Just calling them carnivorous beetles is too generic for my tastes, plus it makes clear they aren't regular meat-eating beetles.

Updating Monstrous Beetle Swarm Working Draft and Carnivorous Monstrous Beetle Swarm Working Draft

So are we done with these?

Yes, I'd say so. Does that mean we're done with the monsters from this adventure?

Sorry I've been away for a while. Work has been crazy (and only letting up a little bit now).

No, there's piles more weird spooks and haunts in that adventure, although many of them have very minimal stats and descriptions.

Did I make a list of them somewhere in this thread? If not, I'd better post one.

These things happen.

Sorry I've been away too. (As a 3e Spelljammer fan this is one of the few places on EN World that still has information that interests me.)

I was trying to hunt down information on hengeyokai, and made a list of hengeyokai over at the Kara-Tur forum at The Piazza. I can't find the word "hengeyokai" here, except in some talk about Shade's conversion of the Hu Hsien, back in 2010.
According to my research the unconverted hengeyokai, are:
  • From MC6 Monstrous Compendium Kara-Tur Appendix: Drake Hengeyokai and
  • From Dragon Magazine 266: Page 40: Humanimals: Dolphin Hengeyokai, Falcon Hengeyokai, Frog Hengeyokai, Lizard Hengeyokai, Lynx Hengeyokai, Octopus Hengeyokai, Otter Hengeyokai, Owl Hengeyokai, Panda Hengeyokai and Turtle Hengeyokai.
It looks like you are currently working on OA2 Night of the Seven Swords (which is 1e). Does that mean that those conversions (which are 2e) are all way down the line?

(I used to see a bunch of topics by Echohawk, tracking all the conversions that had been working on, but it kind of looks like someone has hidden a lot of the topics and I'm a bit confused.)

You've got a URL of http://list of Hengeyokai' in the "list of hengeyokai" above. A quick bit of internet-fu indicates the Piazza Kara-Tur forum is https://www.thepiazza.org.uk/bb/viewtopic.php?t=36598.

Planewalker.com had 3.5 Planar Hengeyokai PCs in the Races chapter of their Planescape Campaign Setting pdf downloads.

Unfortunately that download's long vanished from their website nor could I find it on archive.org.

They're just a slight tweak of the Hengeyokai in the 3.0 Oriental Adventures with different Automatic Languages to the Kara-Tur versions.

We're not going through the AD&D Oriental Adventures sources in any particular order, but at the slow rate we're working through Night of the Seven Swords it'll be a long time before we finish it.

That doesn't mean we can't or won't do a conversion or three (or eleven in this case) from other OA/Kara-Tur sources and then switch back to grinding through OA2.

Would you be interested in contributing to conversions of the missing hengeyokai if we start them here?

(I used to see a bunch of topics by Echohawk, tracking all the conversions that had been working on, but it kind of looks like someone has hidden a lot of the topics and I'm a bit confused.)

A lot of the threads got displaced to different forums in the last Great Server Crash and it is a bit of a pain tracking them down. I've listed a few of them in Displaced Creature Catalog Threads but they're pretty much all "converting monsters" threads.

If you can remember the original thread title it's usually relatively easy to find them with an internet search. For example, running the Search Term Enworld.org "Paging Echohawk" through DuckDuckGo will get you a link to where the old thread Paging Echohawk... AWOL'd too.
