Cookin again

So I essentially did a scaled-down version of a thanksgiving meal using my Christmas gift steamer pot:

The veggies (on the left) were braising in the liquid that was steaming the bone-in turkey breast. The hot-sausage dressing in the back was thrown together afterwards.

The results were good, but there’s room for improvement. In all honesty, I think the technique would work better with skinless chicken breasts or big fish fillets.

Kicked the wife out of the kitchen.

Women don't belong in the kitchen. Made her eggs bene for breakfast. Kinda new at doing it. It's her favorite breakfast.

Valentines day coming up. She'll probably expect a hug or something. Gave her one last month for her birthday!!!.

And running D&D for her in an hour. Who says romance is dead in NZ?

Last night's dinner. Special night at loca pub schnitzel night. Due to our economy going to crap along with potato dollar this costs around $12 USD.

Been comparing prices with American online and dining out here is a lot cheaper. No 20% tip.

Peppercorn sauce. Wife's burger meal was expensive at $13-$14 usd. I can make peppercorn sauce so thinking of attempting something similar.

My smash burgers went down well at camping off the BBQ. Keep em simple like USA but add salad like NZ.

Dinner tonight. Think there's 3vof them MiL went on 5 day trip around the South Island with her sister and mother.

Apparently they're great. Think we are getting chicken, cranberry chicken and steak and cheese.

Some yank trying them.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear of someone using butter on top of a burger--this is a thing I have a vague sense I've heard of--and especially compound butter seems as though it'd be nice.
Video I saw they put a slice of butter in the burger.
I’ve seen that, too, as well as placing multiple pats on the meat patty as they’re assembling the burger on the plate. But the butter-toasted bun is the most common method, probably because it’s the easiest & neatest to do properly.
Ive used softened butter cut into small cubes put in my hamburger meat. Ive also cooked burgers in butter and basted the top of the burgers while they cook. In both cases it adds flavor and keeps the burgers from drying out. The only downside is that sometimes if you put butter in the meat, they sometimes don't hold together as well as they usually do when you form the patties. Worth trying, I saw it on some cooking show and was surprised at the difference it made.
