Could Ep III beat Titanic?

Well, I'm hoping to top my Phantom Menace total which was 7 times. I only saw Attack of the Clones 4 times. It will be extrememly difficult with a one year old considering since he was born I've maybe seen one movie in the theatre. Damn responsibilities.

My record is 6 with Phantom Menace...I've already got 4 for RotS as definites, and maybe another. Shouldn't be too hard to beat that.

Ahhh, to not have (many) responsibilities!

As others have said, Titanic had the "girly" factor going for it. So women would go see it alone or with girlfriends. Multiple times. But they would also drag their boyfriends/husbands/significant others along with them, so that drives up ticket sales right there.

Aside from the Girly factor, Titanic was more popular across different age groups and in many countries where SW is not as popular as in the US. It definitely has broader appeal. The titanic is popular among such demographic groups as 50+ old women in Former Soviet Republics. Such people will never go to see any episode of SW.

I only wish I could say that... as I was watching it with my wife, we were both hoping the ship would sink faster... alas, it droned on like the rest of the movie - too bad.

Ticket prices have gone up since Titanic's release. There is a HUGE chance that RotS will top their box office gross.

But that's really neither here nor there - none of those films mentioned had anywhere the number of tickets sold as Gone with the Wind or Al Jolsen's sequel to the Jazz Singer.

The numbers I posted were for US domestic grosses. Titanic still KILLS all others world-wide, though, beating out RotK by 600 million dollars or so.

I read something on CNN this week about how people going to see movies has fallen off sharply in the last few years. Unless Hollywood manages to turn this trend around, it seems unlikely that *anything* would ever surpass the numbers Titanic generated.
