Could you enhance/enchant a masterwork shirt like armor?

Can you provide a quote? There's nothing like that in 3.0 PHB, 3.0 SRD, 3.5 SRD.

It's in the 3.5 SRD.

ARMOR
In general, magic armor protects the wearer to a greater extent than nonmagical armor. Magic armor bonuses are enhancement bonuses, never rise above +5, and stack with regular armor bonuses (and with shield and magic shield enhancement bonuses). All magic armor is also masterwork armor, reducing armor check penalties by 1.

In addition to an enhancement bonus, armor may have special abilities. Special abilities usually count as additional bonuses for determining the market value of an item, but do not improve AC. A suit of armor cannot have an effective bonus (enhancement plus special ability bonus equivalents) higher than +10. A suit of armor with a special ability must have at least a +1 enhancement bonus.

A suit of armor or a shield may be made of an unusual material. Roll d%: 01–95 indicates that the item is of a standard sort, and 96–100 indicates that it is made of a special material.

Armor is always created so that even if the type of armor comes with boots or gauntlets, these pieces can be switched for other magic boots or gauntlets.

Not that it is core or anything, but this also the Clothborn* armor in Relics and Rituals. Just a thought that came to mind.

Oh and invite anyone here who thinks that offering silken armour with +0 AB to be enhanced to come take a peak at what one of the people on the dastana thread is arguing (that it wouldn't be unbalanced to give Dastanas enhancement bonuses that stack with everything else ;) )

As stated several times here, I don't think there is any reason they can't be allowed if the GM is willing. There are plenty of items that effect AC that are not armor specificly in the DGM/SRD, and there's precident for unusuall materials in several sources.

Just immagine, yarn tartans, or perhaps a +3 Tie-Die T-shirt of facination. Pefect for your "herbalist" bard.

For a while we almost ruled that the half-nymph race IMC required near nudity to gain the benefit of its Unearthly Grace (as nymphs are usually depicted as nearly nude). I didn't really feel like going down that path, though.

We would have had a naked monk!

For the purpose of the spell, though.

If you consider normal clothing to be armor with no AC bonus under all circumstances, then you end up with naked monks.

"When wearing armor, using a shield, or carrying a medium or heavy load, a monk loses her AC bonus, as well as her fast movement and flurry of blows abilities."

Yeah yeah, no stacking, it counts as armor, so you can't wear it under armor.

Or aboriginal peoples with feathered garments that offer protection, or Inuit (eskimo) parkas, or even good old wicker armor. Let's face it, they are going to use what they got and what makes sense in their environment.

How awesome would that be to have the conquistadors come ashore ready to PWN the natives but instead are faced by elite troops wearing +5 feathered loincloths?
