D&D 3E/3.5 Creature Catalog 3.5 Overhaul Project

actually, I usually try to give a creature the medium if there is a range, hence the 14 I gave them in the original conversion. But I’m fine with going slightly lower…
That would be preferable. I was just trying to get the LA down.

BOZ said:
average is OK, I guess, but don’t forget that they are 7 feet tall on average…
True.

BOZ said:
I guess you have a point. Maybe the clerics and rangers would have a higher Wis than an average anuchu.
Definitely.

BOZ said:
Actually… I added that part. :) notice that there are no references to gnolls in the original text…
Well I'll be...

Nice addition, though.

Meh, oh well. I would be fine with them having an LA of +2 overall, and that doesn’t change the fact that I think they are an excellent PC race. You see now, I may have overestimated in my original ability assignment, but it wasn’t by much. ;)
That's cool. Besides, thanks to the new LA buyback systems presented in Unearthed Arcana and Player's Guide to Faerun, LAs aren't as detrimental as before.

i haven't really had a good look at those... (haven't bought a D&D book since gencon)

so you like Dex +4, Con +2, Cha -2?

Essentially, in the UA version, you can "buy back" your LA with experience points at certain levels. The PGtoF version is posted here:

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20040215a&page=2

I like those stats. If you want to give them some Int bonus at well, that should be cool. It wouldn't necessary increase the LA. Here's what Savage Species says about ability score modifiers and LA:

"Unbalanced Ability Scores: Table 2-7: Ability Score Equivalencies in the DUNGEON MASTER's Guide shows how to balance ability scores. A monster that does not follow those rules gains at least a +1 level adjustment. A higher level adjustment is appropriate if the monster's ability score bonuses (especially Strength or Constitution modifiers) are particularly high. Not having a Constitution score is actually a benefit, since a monster without one can ignore most effects that require Fortitude saves."

i'm going with Str 11 Dex 15 Con 13 Int 13 Wis 10 Cha 8

i'll check the rest of that out when i get home, because work has been blocking WotC for years. ;)

you know a weird thing? the page on the Dragon CD-Rom doesn't list their Size and weight - but i'm sure i must have seen this somewhere, because i went to the trouble of mentioning it! maybe i looked it up in the actual paper magazine - does anyone have that handy to verify it? mine is packed away and stacked under other boxes.

Lookin' good.

I'd add the crit ranges/multipliers as follows:
Longsword +0 melee (1d8/19-20) or longbow +2 ranged (1d8/x3)

That is odd about the weights. I don't have the print copy of that issue (but have the CD-ROM, of course), so I can't help you out there.

Actually, I meant height not weights… there should, in theory, be a line that says something like: SIZE: M (7’ tall), unless I just guessed and made up the height myself… oh well, it’s not the end of the world if I can’t verify it, but I’ll go having a look through my old notes to see if I have something there about it.

Based on the revised stat block...

Anuchu Characters

Anuchu leaders tend to be rangers. Anuchu clerics worship ????. An anuchu cleric has access to two of the following domains: X, X, or X.

Anuchu characters possess the following racial traits.

  • +4 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, +2 Intelligence, -2 Charisma.
  • A anuchu’s base land speed is 30 feet.
  • Darkvision out to 60 feet.
  • +2 racial bonus to Move Silently checks when in natural surroundings.
  • Special Qualities: Scent, speak with canines.
  • Automatic Languages: Common, Anuchu. Bonus Languages: Elf, Gnome, Halfling.
  • Favored Class: Ranger.
  • Level adjustment +2.
