credit theft problems on internet?

The main gaming site I'm leery about at the moment is the White Wolf one, as several of us had personal information stolen from there last year. But they didn't get credit card numbers.

Actually, it seems like they did. Several of us on this board, and other places, and people I know in real life had problems in our accounts about 6 months to a year later that seemed to track back to that event. In my case it was handled with a phone call that lasted 10 mins. If you haven't cancelled the card you used on the WW site before the hack do so now.

Paizo, OTOH, has always been good. My wife did some shopping there for me last Christmas. Great Customer Service too.

Well, at the time, they insisted that credit card information hadn't been stolen. But personal information (ie. address, name, phone number) had been. The perpetrators were a group of Russian hackers who then tried to extort money from White Wolf in order to keep them from releasing that information onto the Internet. Something along those lines. I remember receiving several e-mails from the hackers, claiming that if White Wolf didn't negotiate with them, my information, and that of other customers, would be released.

I did cancel my credit cards at the time, but have seen no irregular activity.

let me clarify. At the time WW said no credit info was obtained. At the time I trusted that statement and left it at that. Then I noticed anomolous charges on my account and immediately called my credit card company and dealt with in it in about 10 mins. Other people I talked to did indicate that cards that recieved little or no use other than WW had unauthorized charges on them. It might be that the hackers got only a small amount of credit info, but I raise the point just in case others might not have delt with it.
