Hi all,

Does anyone have a reference for the reputed rule that a critical hit by a monster with energy drain bestows 2x negative levels? I have been using this rule but qas recently questioned on it, and I can't find a reference for it. I thought I read it in a sage advice or something, but haven't seen it.

Unfortunately I could not search the forum as I am sure ist has been answered before.

Thanks in advance! I definitely need a specific reference too, if there is one!

In the beginning of the MM and the MM2, where they describe all the common special attack forms, it talks about this in the Energy Drain section.

And yes, it's correct- a crit does double the number of negative levels it bestows.

Does that work with Enervation as well?
Yes. Page 79 in T&B uses Enervation is used as an example of the rule.

Edit: That's what happens when you type slow :(

But what happens if you have a critical multiplier of greater than two?

For example, the classic vampire monk/weapon master(unarmed) can use the Improved Multiplier feat for one of his critical hits. Would he inflict *six* negative levels?

Yes, hence my previous post.
