D&D General Critical Role Ending

It's probably quite coincidental: the PCs are nearing maximum power, which Mercer doesn't like DMing for anyways, and they literally cannot top the current big bad. It is time to wrap it up.

Huh, I didn't know Mercer doesn't like DMing high-level games (not surprising, their a huge pain to design for). Can I see the source, just for curiosity?

I assume they'll switch continents again... Matt Mercer clearly LOVES worldbuilding (there's a great chat on YouTube where he talks worldbuilding tips with Brennan Lee Mulligan), and I think it's just better for a new campaign to start in a new mostly-unconnected space where the new PCs can explore new things, new organizations, cities and enemies. It's more exciting for the players, DM, and viewers when everything is NEW.

So I'd guess the new campaign is in Marquet, Issylra, or the Shattered Teeth. I don't know which one they'll actually do, but Issylra has the least said about it, which seems better for an entirely new campaign then say Marquet, which has some vague descriptions already.

Yeah, I'm a little curious as well because I did see where he mentioned being excited about Theros because it has some more resources for higher-level D&D.

I would guess that it would be the Shattered Teeth, but as this most recent campaign had quite a bit of sea-based adventures, that seems less likely to me now.

Secondly some of them are not naturals for mastering trpg rules systems and get stressed out by having to remember even all the 5e rules they've been playing for years while being watched and critiqued by a huge audience,
I can understand some first year jitters.

But by now they are literally professional actors/players...

Granted nobody's perfect, and in the heat of the moment there will still be mistakes made.

But at a minimum they should be well versed on how combat works, and what their own characters can do, including spells.

Not everything needs to be memorized, but at a minimum they should have handy rules references close at hand that they can look at while waiting their turn.

I had a conversation with some folks about what we thought the PCs should be for campaign 3. The suggestions I liked most: ....
If CR really wanted to get the tongue's wagging...

An all Human party.

You would be able to hear the wails of: "What!? What are they doing?" from orbit.

If Mercer really wanted to invoke: The Great Wailing and Gnashing of Teeth of 2021...

He would simultaneously introduce his E6 variant house rules for 5e D&D with the new campaign.

Naturally die-hard CR fans have nothing to fear.

Less than 0 Chance of any of the above happening.

It won't happen but I'd love to see them go back to Pathfinder in the form of 2e. Their game is still pretty combat heavy, so it could work well since its not harder to play than 5e either, but they have such a close relationship with WOTC its unlikely. It'd be especially weird since Exandria has official content published by WOTC now.

They could do it though, WOTC needs them more than they need WOTC, they aren't succesful because of 5e's fanbase, whereas 5e owes a lot of its success to them.

I'm pretty sure they all like 5E now (the players), plus I don't think they're keen on switching the system on viewers (I doubt many are familiar with how PF 2E works).
