D&D 5E Curse of Strahd Luck Blade use.

This is what would happen in my game (and did for 1 group found the blade).
Kubotai: I wish that me and my buddies are back to our world.
Me: Nothing happens.
Kubotai and the others: What???? What the F**K is happening with my wish.
Me: You hear a throat clearing sound behind you. You turn around and see the gentleman that has thrown three fireballs at you so far. He says: "Thinking of leaving my dear Barovia? How shocking it is of you. This is my land. It is I that could grant your wish and I refused it. I just came here to let you know that I am very disappointed by your ungentlemanly ways. No offense meant to you ladies (with a slight head nod toward my two women players). Now I will leave you with this little parting gift as a reminder... The gentleman disappears in a puff of smoke and a fireball flies toward you. You hear a faint evil laughter in the distance...

You just can't leave Barovia.

On an other note. If you don't like the adventure that you're in. You can always talk to your DM and start an other game with other characters. D&D is about building a story with players and DM. If one side have absolutely no fun, I don't know why you continue to play in this campaign. Talk with your DM. Maybe you're in the early phase of the campaign and you feel overwhelmed but I can tell you it is one of the best adventure of the 5th edition. Both of my groups absolutely hated it at first but ended up loving it to no ends. In fact they were going to the pub together and were comparing their respective experiences as both group had exactly the same pregenerated characters.

Well thanks for that spoiler! It was asked what my party would try to use the wish for, and that is in fact what my part would try to use the wish for. If it fails, it fails, but it was an honest answer. Not sure why I am getting flack for it, or why we're not spoiling the adventure in this thread?
Ah, shoot. My bad. Somehow I thought this was a more DM-focused thread.

At least I potentially saved you from wasting a wish?

(shrugs) Sure, you can look at it that way.
Or you can look at it as wanting to play through a cool adventure where the goal is to stake the vampire, save the girl/land & be heroes. Escape being the reward.

But if you wish yourselves out? Clearly you didn't want to finish this adventure by going on the advertised Vampire hunt....

Again, this is a player vs player character issue. The players are on board for the adventure. The player characters are hijacked and trapped on the adventure with no hope of escape known to them.

And while I don't know for sure, I strongly suspect after having played there for a while that there is no hope of saving the land.

In ravenloft many things are twisted and different from normal D&D, but communicating most of that instead of letting the players find them out the hard way (e.g. spells which in former editions had the "evil " denominator, or enable planeshift), spoils part of the fun.

It might be best to explain my position with a real-world example

Coroc: Hey Sabathius42, want to play in my DnD campaign?

Sabathuis42: Sure assumes we are playing DnD, makes a gnome necromancer wizard

Coroc: OK, on the way to slaughter the rats you are sucked into an unholy vortex and you find yourself in a different world.

Sabathius42: Oh man, this is going to be rough and dangerous. I cast False Life on myself in case there is trouble.

Mistwell: Good call, I ready my shield and draw my sword just in case.

Coroc: Sabathius42, as the energies of the False Life course through your body you can feel yourself twisting and altering. When you look down you have goat hooves for feet. Mistwell, you are fine.

Sabathius42: WTF?

later

Sabathius42: Those villagers are really giving me the smackdown, I cast Vampiric Ray to get back some HP.

Mistwell: I'll drink my healing potion.

Coroc: Sabathius42, you once again feel the evil twisting inside of your body. You look down and now you have bloody red skin from head to toe. You are now going to automatically Frighten any villagers that see your exposed skin. Mistwell, you heal 14 damage.

later

Sabathius42: My mutated three headed daemonic gnome necromancer sneaks off behind the tree line to off himself. He can no longer live in this godforsaken world.

Coroc: As the stake smashes your heart you yearn to feel the sweet release of death. After a few moments you realize that death and release does not come so easily. You now have the Zombie template.

Mistwell: Sweet, I found this awesome sword!

Coroc: Hey Sabathius42, want to play in my DnD campaign? Its an alternate setting where dark choices by the player characters will haunt them and where you can't just fight your way to winning everything?

Sabathius42: Sure. Sounds like I probably don't want to play a necromancer in that place...i'm going to go with a Fighter to avoid magic, it always seems a little dark to me.

uups you got me there. Haha, no session 0 for rloft newbies with me is like that rather:
Guys we play a thing a bit different with heavy ties into gothic horror.
see I know you love to play funny hybrids like halfdragons etc. but problem here is that this has 97% chance to get you the torch pitchfork bonfire treatment by the local population super quick.
In short: Play nothing with to pointy ears fangs tails etc, recommendation is play human to be on the safe side, halfelf dwarf hafling or gnome if you cannot help it.
also magic is abit twisted so care when casting anything necromantic , it can have fatal consequences. This realm is superevil so no summoning undead and the like unles you want to become one yourself.
ah you might think I play a paladin of good then it best combat that, nope that is a bad idea also, it might get you special attention of the evil powers there because for them you will shine like a beacon, and they don't like the light.

so like that, trying to find a middle way between spoiler and information would be my approach.

but your post is a good idea for Halloween 👻
