D&D 5E [D&D 5e] Planescape- In Through the Out Door (Full)

@goatunit What race were you thinking of for Eurid? Nothing says he can't be a tiefling himself.

@Kiraya_TiDrekan Are you still going with druid for Nameless? Or is will its class be determined by who it ends up imprinting on? :)

@CanadienneBacon Undead or elemental type-- either one is fine. I just wasn't sure what was more appropriate for how you thought of Picayune's condition. It sounds like undead is closer to what you were thinking. Unlike 3e, though, a monster's type doesn't come with a laundry list of traits and there are no racial hit dice. Mechanically, it just determines what effects (usually magical effects) will or won't work on you, and in some cases, what they'll do differently. Generally it's more of a liability to PCs, since most spells and magic items are designed with the PCs in mind. But that's okay. That's interesting. ;)

Proficiencies can be tool proficiencies or languages-- I was thinking other instruments in Picayune's case, if you thought it was appropriate. Learning new proficiencies in 5e isn't tied to character level. All it requires is time and training-- usually assuming the trainer is paid for their time. The going rate is 250 days at about 1 gp per day, assuming a willing trainer can be found.

If it seems like I'm being over-generous, bear in mind that I'm thinking about the future, too-- equipment will be less of a concern for a ghost, so ideally I would front-load the character with intangible things. You can't take it with you, but you can *remember*.

These extra proficiencies and skill expertise are in lieu of class levels, to represent his skill as a musician, not an adventurer.

@Queenie Kelemvor is actually pretty nice, as death gods go. It actually wasn't so very long ago that he was mortal himself...but that's another story.

@Fenris CB brings up a good point, and with two bards in the party it's worth having out.

Performance being a separate skill is a bit of an oddity in 5e. The rogue's Open Locks and Disable Device skills were simply folded into thieves' tools as a proficiency. Performance remains, but it's not all that clear what it actually represents, other than, say, acting or dancing. Showmanship, maybe. A sense of pageantry. The thing is, you roll tool proficiencies as well. It seems to be left up to a judgment call of the DM as to which is called for in any given situation.

How would you prefer to handle this? Just with an abundance of rolls? Playing the instrument correctly is one thing, possibly calling for a Dexterity-based tools check, but captivating an audience at the same time, that's Charisma-based Performance. A strong enough performer can recover from an error; a great instrumentalist's skill shines through even if the performance is a poor one.

Or is it simpler to just dispense with the doubled rolls? We could drop Performance as a skill, and let others (Persuasion, most likely) stand in for it.

Just an FYI for all my games - my desktop has crapped out. It only works sporadically, if that. So, I can access my games but only from my iPad. I can respond but it's hard to write up long responses and I have never figured out how to do color text on Tapatalk. A new desktop is being ordered but will take at least a couple of weeks. Just wanted to give an update, especially because I will try to go back and edit in the color and any weird formatting where I can. :)

That said, I'm going to post what I have of my character, she's half done-ish but this was I just have to make edits and add to the sheet and not the whole bloody thing on the iPad :D

I actually played all my 3.X career in Forgotten Realms. Most of that with a cleric of Kelemvor. I've also done a lot of FR reading. If we end up going there I bet it will all come back to me ;)

BIG work in progress, don't bother reading yet lol

Well, since you read it, feel free to comment on ideas! I'm up to looking at invocations. I don't know if I mentioned but I've never played a Warlock before and I'm not sure I have ever played WITH a Warlock before either.

For invocations, I suggest

Armor of Shadows, which will mean you don't have to worry about wearing armor

Beast Speech, very 'in theme' for a fairy and can be very interesting to RP

Eldritch Sight, super useful to evaluate loot

Eldritch Spear, amazing for a flying blastermage

Misty Visions...very versatile

...

You might also consider dipping into Rogue a little at some point. Sneak Attack + at-will invisibility = awesome.

If you'll all pardon an intrusion by someone who's not submitting a character for this campaign (and what's the etiquette on that, anyway?) --

I like all of Shayuri's suggested Invocations for Liliana. In fact, that's nearly the same list I came up with, except for the fact that I would have suggested "Mask of Many Faces" in place of "Eldritch Spear."

Other suggestions:

Cantrips: Perhaps consider Minor Illusion instead of Prestidigitation? Reasons include: Liliana already gets "harmless sensory effects" and "light or snuff a fire" from Druidcraft, so Prestidigitation would be a bit of a duplicate for her.

Is her Noble background going to impose diplomatic missions on Liliana? For those (if any), she might need a good poker face; and the Deception skill is on the Warlock skill list.

Shayuri mentioned taking a level in Rogue.
If Liliana doesn't drastically need the Ability Score Increase at 4th level, how about her having taken "Magic Initiate (Bard)" -- to reflect that wind instrument she's shown playing? That could give her "Dancing Lights" and "Message" at will, plus one Bard spell 1/DAY. Having both "Message" (Range: 120 feet) and her pet Pseudodragon's telepathy, with the information-sharing that "Find Familiar" gives, she could be conducting background spying and coordination of accomplices while acting (with a nice poker face) in a diplomatic role imposed by her Noble background.

Yes, I'm building up to something here: With her once-a-day Invisibility, she could use Dancing Lights to coalesce the figments into a glowing, flying form of indistinct shape while using Minor Illusion to accompany that form with cheery tinkling sounds. Being invisible herself, she could have a friendly, nearby Elf pretend that the glowing and tinkling light is the pixie, thereby drawing attention away from Liliana's true location.
