The Future of D&D
We'll also unveil an outline for the future of D&D, including what awaits your heroes in addition to the releases of the remaining 2024 Core Rulebooks. Tune in to discover what thrilling challenges, familiar realms, and formidable foes will test the mettle of your party as you embark on new magical stories!

Project Sigil
The Project Sigil closed beta is coming soon, and we want to show what's in store! Project Sigil is an immersive 3D sandbox to help you run your D&D games. With it, you can bring your games to life in impeccable detail as you create your adventures, share them with friends, and play them together as a group!

You can sign up for the Project Sigil closed beta, which kicks off this fall, to be one of the lucky players who will preview the functionality and provide feedback to help improve D&D's next virtual experience.

When and Where to Watch
D&D Direct will premiere on August 27, 2024, at 9 a.m. PDT on D&D's YouTube channel. In addition to big D&D announcements, there will even be a special collab with Magic: The Gathering to celebrate D&D's 50th anniversary!

But there's plenty of high quality third party settings out there!! Why not check them out??
Indeed there is. At this point in the 5e life cycle most of what i own is third party.
I'm neither a fanboy nor a hater. Thanks to everyone's beloved OGL; we don't need WOTC at all anymore.
I'm not a hater; my alternate cover PHB is on order but that's probably my last on brand purchase.

Maybe instead of rehashing all the old stuff they could create you know....new stuff.
This is where 3pp comes into play. :) Homebrewers are always coming up with new stuff for 5e D&D, and some of them like Kibblestasty and Laser Llama can out-do whatever WoTC puts out. And then there are 5e-adjacent RPGs like Level Up, which have come up with material not found in the 2014 and 2024 versions of 5e.
No money in it. Not enough anyway.
Money is just one incentive to design new stuff. Creating and sharing new material with others for fun is another incentive. Sometimes the reward is getting feedback from a player who has used whatever you designed.

I agree, but we were talking about WotC's motivations, and they are overwhelmingly financial in regards to what they publish. It is in fact my biggest issue with them that they have no interest in other motivations than maximizing profit.

Some times the goal isn't making in the first moment but "creating" power brand, and then the money will arrive later.

We are talking about the entertaiment industry, then you can't offer only the same one always but some times you have to show some new thing. It is pure marketing strategy.

And if WotC doesn't worry, then some 3PP will steal the show with their own ideas.

Today Magic: the Gathering is the favorite option to create new IPs: Duskmourn, Bloomburrow...

If they talk about anything past the MM, I'm thinking:

  • Venger BBEG big Campaign for the year 2025
  • Anthology of small modular Adventurea, either new or old
  • Xen'drik Setting slipcase for Eberron, expanding the area covered in 5E and providing '24 versions of Eberron specific rules (Dragonmarks as Background Feat, etc.)
  • Tasha Presents: Courts of the Feywild

Vecna creating new troubles in Greyhawk, and maybe a new demiplane, like a wicked version of Sigil.

Why not a reboot of the modules about the grand conjuction event in Ravenloft?

A novel set in Cerilia (Birthright).

Witchlight as a setting.
